One of the most beautifully crafted shows out there.

    a little too
A little too self important, a little too self aware. It's distracting. I do appreciate some of the topics.

    A journey
Each episode is a small sonic journey. Sometimes the stories are personal, and sometimes the stories follow a more traditional format with an interviewer and an interviewee. The unique production, music, and the stories combine to create an experimental and engaging sonic experience. It’s singularly unique, and absolutely enjoyable.

    Transporting!
My new favorite show is a beautiful fantasy. It’s an absolute feast for my ears. Jeff’s love affair with sound is clear—this podcast’s masterful audio quality sets the bar high above my regular listens. Thanks for the strange vibes, and I can’t wait to work my way back through the catalog ✌️

Is this a diary or a podcast?
I’ve tried twice now to get into this show but it’s just a guy talking about his life. And his podcast career. Where are the monsters?

the warm hug of nostalgia & the inner spark of curiosity all in one incredible podcast
I’ve been a fan of Here Be Monsters for as long as I can remember, since very early in the show’s run, and it’s been an absolute delight to listen to both HBM & Jeff grow and change through the years. As someone who has gone through life often feeling like a wayward traveler and a lone soul, so many things about this podcast feel like Home, and I relish it for that. I return to this show over and over as a source of comfort, distraction, and inspiration. I’ve never heard anything else like it, and I don’t think I’ve ever described it to someone in a way that fully encompasses all its magic. HBM may not be for everyone, but for those of us who it is for, it resonates deeply—and I’m very glad to see it’s still here for a season 10. Best wishes :)

    Hypocrisy
Been listening to the show for years, fun audio adventures. Latest episode is a virtue signal on medical misinformation … this dude has shows dedicated to dumpster diving and hitchhiking and he’s upset with a platform advocating free speech. If you enjoy literal parroting of the mainstream narrative enjoy this show, it is a good one. But that’s not what i came here for. ✌🏼

    Et tu, Brute?
“Science welcomes questions. It is not held up by consensus or censorship, but on inquiry and truth. It is not a respecter of position or economic power. Was not Galileo one against the many?” I would’ve never pegged you for someone who was against questioning and differing views. I don’t think anyone can call anything mis/disinformation at this point, we really just don’t know. The JR episodes you referred to were both with Doctors. One of them the multiple patent owner to MRNA technology. Did you even listen to the episodes? I was so angry when I saw the description of your latest episode but thought I should listen to your entire explanation maybe it will make sense. Well I have now decided to unsubscribe. I always loved your work but I can’t stand behind one who is calling for censorship in any form.

    Fave bedtime stories
There is something in each story that resonates. As the unfamiliar worms in, empathy pings. Spellbound and addicted now. Discovered the early episodes available on their website. Will got thru those soon.

My absolute favorite podcast. Every time it’s like being in a pillow fort and accompanied when lonely. Thanks for making such beautiful work, Jeff. Hope to make people feel who read/listen to my work the way I feel when I listen to HBM.

    My water and bread
Through this pandemic and well before, this podcast saved me. Not the evangelical, born again kind but deeper- on a spiritual plane I’m still discovering. This is so much more than just a podcast; it’s empathy, family, the essence that runs through every living being. What are you waiting for?

    Superb!
I have binge listened to just about the whole backlog of these podcasts and find them very relatable and interesting. I can’t wait to see what going independent has in store for you guys. Glad I listened to that episode of Harry Potter and the Sacred Text when Jeff was the guest.

Interesting until personal politics were made known
I was brand new to your podcast and listened to 4 podcasts back to back, thoroughly enjoying the diverse content. Unfortunately, I will be unsubscribing bc I have grown weary and will no longer support companies/entertainers etc, who feel the need to make known their personal politics, automatically excluding anyone in your who audience who disagrees with your clear contempt for our current President. In this day and age, it seems to have become “trendy” to air your politics even though it can only hurt your efforts to widen your audience. It may have become cliche but it still seems prudent to keep your politics private. Good luck.

First time listening to this podcast and I have to say, how much I love it already! This episode was very interesting because Gene really gave me an insight on how they use monkeys for testing which was not easy to hear especially since he was getting attached to them and putting them down was not easy. I recommend listening to it!

    Tulsa episode
I came across this show through the most recent episode on the hip-hop collective reviving Black Wall Street in Tulsa and it was phenomenal. Keep making space for stories like these.

    Beautifully Executed and Absolutely Unique
Richly dense. Listening to this podcast is like stretching the veil between what we can (or cannot) see. Air thickens with some sort of (yet to be described) otherworldly reality state. Magical stuff doth emerge with each listen every...single...time. 🦄

    Endlessly Fascinating
I love this podcast so much! It’s unlike anything I’ve ever listened to... in the best way! Give it a listen, learn about things you’ve never even thought of before, and then tell all your friends!

    Splendid, spooky, and wildly compelling
The quirky range of topics this podcast covers, its empathy, its attention to background sounds and music, and its compelling narration all combine to make this one of my favorite podcasts.

    Pure audio art.
When walking down a drab hallway, tune your ears to the left, auspiciously make a right into that blasphemous doorway of sight and sound and find yourself immersed in the audible fluctuations of waveform delectability. You have now entered the Entman zone. Do not be cordial, do not be morose. This is a chance for you to open your ears to something that you didn’t know you needed but knew you needed not. Heed that need and embrace these audio treats. For you are but a speck of dust hurdling through space and time. So why not explore this juncture of this tiny corner of this strange forbidden place.

    Norwegian Taco
Like a Norwegian taco. You know the kind, with canned corn and a sweet red sauce somewhat short of what can be called salsa. Yet it touches that spot in your stomach, or is it your soul, that you seldom seek.

    Banana Softies Review
This was a good podcast about testing on and later euthanizing animals in order to test products and medicine. The speaker helped us understand what it means to be locked in a building for several hours a day in compèany only with captive monkeys. As he became more attatched to them, he grew to bond with them by watching movies and listening to music.I believe this podcast can be listened by any kind of person and educates them on what is essentially the dirty work behind a lot of helpful products.

    On "banana softies"
Very eye opening. I heard before about animal testing but never in such a first-hand-experience point of view. Hearing Gene is sad but very upsetting at the same time. It is really horrific that those innocent animals are born and raised with the sole purpose of serving on radiation and cancer drugs testing. They come to this world to suffer. Everyone should listen to it!

    Very good podcast!
A very touching story and can really sense the conflict inside of him. The podcast is so good and clear, honestly, it is very impactful and the sound effects add to the feelings brought up while listening. Very good at keeping information recent and fresh, and the personal story that is somehow relatable in a lot of ways. Very interesting and personal.

    Banana Softies Review
The episode was very interesting. Hearing the way Gene spoke about the monkeys really drove home how close he felt to them. He speaks with such a fondness and familiarity when recounting the movies they would watch and with such hurt when remembering how he had to put them down.

    the pod needs to feed
This is absolutely my favorite podcast. Podcasts are made by everyone and every corporation now, but none stands to HBM’s spiritually curious, dark and masterfully edited radio pieces. Listen with headphones in your favorite hiding place. I love hearing the differences in storytelling by Bethany Denton and Jeff Emtman, both with rich and beautiful craft. I can’t say enough to how much this podcast has inspired me, how comforting it is, how much it means to me and how it makes me feel seen. So much love to you all - listen to the hell out of this podcast.
  • the hosts
gradually more about hosts than subject
And this season's first episode kinda cemented that for me. I unsubscribed.
