Jnich44So goodThis podcast is a real gift. The variety of content from response/rebuttal to more planned/didactic episodes causes seemingly variations of the tenor of the podcast. All said quality context. This has been a huge encouragement to me

A concept?Kept me ProtestantWhen I’m done listening to an episode I never leave without learning something new, or thinking about something in different way. Even when I disagree with him, I can always understand/follow his point of view. An oasis in a desert of Protestant apologetics.

TristanGpBest Protestant PodcastGavin Ortlund is a true scholar and a true pastor and these both show very clearly in his work. He is charitable but uncompromising, and puts out a high volume of very solid content. He doesn’t fall into the trap a lot of Christian thinkers do of repackaging the same thing over and over. Highly recommend

MG1776KCEngaging & BiblicalI came across this podcast while reading “What it means to be Protestant “ by Gavin. This book addressed everything I was currently thinking about especially the Eastern Orthodox claims to apostolic succession and Roman Catholic claims to being the original church that was born at Pentecost. Long story short this was a timely book for me. This podcast is very informative and encouraging! Thanks Gavin!

JaquobbLiterally BaptistHow can the church be relevant at all to interpretation when despite beliefs that are universally agreed upon, you still choose to be a Baptist and believe perseverance of the saints? Clearly the church is irrelevant, if they had any authority you’d agree with universally accepted beliefs, but to you don’t. It’s dishonest to give lip service just to prove a point.

FlyfishingJess35Renew your mindThis podcast has been a wonderful influence in my relationship with God. The educational content on the history of the early church is top notch and much appreciated. I also love the humble ecumenical nature that Dr. Ortland assumes and encourages.

Gold SleevesTopic RequestGavin, thanks for providing this resource. Wondering if you could do an episode on the Sabbath/ Lord’s Day. I’d be interested to hear your theology on the subject and how that affects the way you spend Sundays. From a practical standpoint, I want to spend Sundays in a way that honors God. Should I pursue hobbies on Sunday that I don’t have time for on other days of the week, or should I only be doing things pertaining to worship and ministry? Can I go out to eat after church, or should I avoid things on Sunday that cause other people not to have the day off? These are the kind of questions I’d like to have peace and clarity about, but I have wrestled with them for most of my Christian life.

ErikOnFireExemplary Irenic Theological DiscussionYou won’t find a better podcast for irenic, thoughtful treatment of theological issues than Gavin’s. Though I regularly arrive at different conclusions than Dr. Ortlund, I don’t hesitate to listen to what he has to say on the topics he discusses for an honest evaluation and treatment of the underlying aspects of the text of scripture and the broader debate on any given subject. He helps the listener distill the conversation into the fundamental questions about the text of scripture or the intellectual/philosophical underpinnings of why we’re even having the discussion about the given topics. I commend this podcast to everyone who wants to grow and learn with discernment and a charitable spirit. Thank you, Gavin!

Wildabeast411Christian Ernest Irenic InquiryGavin Ortlund’s work in historical theology and cultural commentary are instructive intellectually, but his commitment to loving his dialogue partners—neighbors and enemies—is the most rare, refreshing, and exemplary feature of his work. He adamantly refuses to slip into demonization, ad hominem, and straw-manning. He listens and learns from those from vastly different persuasions and adds his own words of both peace and insight. Despite the fact that I disagree with Gavin about much, I hope many more will learn from his wisdom, both in the content and manner of his speech.

pastordarinRefreshingly Clear & DeepGavin Ortlund is able to clearly present Historic Protestantism, while simultaneously exposing misleading stereotypes, and demonstrating its contemporary relevance for the church. Not only that but he is able to deftly address complex and philosophical apologetics topics with clarity and charity. Definitely worth your time!

BecomingwhoIamClear and GraciousGavin brings both clarity and grace as he touches on knotty issues in culture and theology. Thankful for his work which seeks to unite, instead of divide—even amidst a diversity of perspectives—vital work in this age.

Matt8363891)3Joel / GavinWonderful back and forth. Highly respect their convo. Closest thing to a productive dialogue. I’d highly recommend Gavin reach out to Trent Horn and do a convo on this too. Trent is a respectful individual to have a dialogue with. FYI - I’m Catholic and have just subscribed to Gavin because I enjoy diving deeper and always appreciate intelligent alternative views
