kooksloverA love letter to UNEND!I grew up on Star Trek re runs and the Treasure Planet DVD on repeat. Hitchhiker’s Heart of Gold ship with its impossibility drive powered by an Italian restaurant is peak whimsical cosmological sci fi to me — now the UNEND story & MIDST cosmos have joined this special place of story obsessions in my heart/brain. I loved hearing about your inspirations in the S1 round table and can’t wait for S2!

Cross dressBe transported through a tale like non other!I love this podcast. The story is so unique and so are the characters. I love the effort in production, with the music and sound effects the show is exciting and eerie at times!!!

DaMitten73Great Stories! It’s just great. It’s nothing I ever knew I needed, but now that I have heard it? I just want more! If this is your first time listening, congrats! Maybe there is some bonus valor for you.

CloudedThreadUnique and fun story!Midst is a story that is expertly written and dynamically told. It breathes life back in to the genre of cowboy western scifi thriller. While it may be a bit difficult to adjust to having three narrators, it is well worth it as the narrators create a flow that is easily understandable, humorous and fun. If you’re starting this podcast, you’re in for a treat!

Perrin WallowsScience Fiction at it’s FinestI’ve never been so enraptured by a show, specifically an audio drama in such a way before. The back and forth of the 3 narrators blends together seamlessly, and I love how each episode has a Chekov’s gun that you didn’t even realize was set up to fire back at you later on. This is one of the best hidden gems I’ve ever stumbled across on, and more people need to know about it.

DalesEyebrowsThis show has everything good about storytelling. This is the best piece of fiction I have ever consumed. The narrators, the characters, the plot, the world, all of it is captivating. I can’t speak highly enough of this wonderful piece of media. Bravo to everyone involved.
-
maiwayWhat happened to my favorite show? The 1st season of Midst was revelatory - deeply creative, meaningful, mesmerizing. Characters you felt passionately attached to. This new story is mostly plotless world-building. Hints of dramatic tension come & go without building to anything. Once the characters started playing their own RPG, I tuned out in frustration. What a heartbreak.

Philolaus of NebraskaUnbelievably Charming, Gripping and Unique!Midst takes some getting used to, with the triple-narrators, but once one gets into the groove with it the charm, wit and gripping plot will grab you. There’s nothing else like it—an ol’ time sci-fi radio show of Weird Tales from the 1930s transformed for the 21st century. Great music is an added plus!

jenkins_girlO M G5 min into the final episode of Season 3 when you guys started doing “the thing” in rapid fire, my head exploded‼️ BEHOLD! The most talented trio in podcasting on full majestic display. Thank you.

Mike OxlongetFANTASTICGreat show. 100% would recommend. My only complaint is there’s only 3 seasons. And one other complaint- Yall if you’re reading this? He deserved a better real name. That’s all. Consider the character. You know who. His name, his REAL name? He didn’t deserve that.

ZStreetOne of a kind podcastJust finished season three and this podcast is one of a kind. The story, the voices, the sound effects, and the music are just top tier. I laughed, I choked up, and I got that sense of emptiness when it was over that I only really get with media that’s affected me personally. Thank you to the Midst team and Critical Role for bringing me this experience. I will never forget it!

Greg L - ColoradoBlazing new ground!Excellent podcast/show with a unique angle on storytelling and narration. Give yourself until at least the third episode before deciding to quit. It’s purposely confusing at first, but all loose ends are tied up in time, and in a beautiful fashion. The best fiction podcast I’ve ever listened to and something very distinct from an audiobook.
-
kelp queenThe best to ever do itThis is the best story I have ever been told. Could not have asked for a better journey. Thank you for creating and sharing this work of art!

Hilfox84Not what the description impliesJust so everyone knows this is not an audio drama like the description makes it sound. This is basically a DnD game without the game play chatter. Seems well produced and everything just can’t stand the monotone overly descriptive dnd style. This should be mentioned in the podcast description.
-
the802Exceptionally unique and engagingThis podcast is hard to describe, apart from that its approach to story telling is incredibly novel and well produced. The story unravels slowly, and it took me a few tries to really get into it. But when I did, I really did. I *love* the way that the narrators play with the audience - it’s told as if you are sitting down with a few good friends and they’re just telling you a story. They play with the Fourth Wall, jump from character to character, and build a slow, mounting tension that is genuinely one of a kind. I learned about this pod from Critical Role, and I can say that it’s a welcome breath of fresh air. I love D

Zula_ReidUnique and Compelling StorytellingThis is such a wonderful and creative story. The word created is intricate and intriguing. The characters are super compelling, and the story is incredible. It’s one of those stories that’s hard to explain without spoilers or sounding insane. It’s a slow burn, so give it a couple episodes to get into it. It’s worth the ride.
-
chikenbirdThe terror!I want an entire episode of our narrators describing terrors!
-
Jedediah R.Easily the best.Creativity. Score. Narrative. Voice Acting. All of it, more than I can describe. If you listen to the first episode, You Will Finish The Show. I can't express how incredible this story is and how spectacularly it is told.
-
UdmanmasSO GOODthe voice acting? amazing. the vibes? immaculate. the story? insanely good. the characters? insanely compelling. LISTEN TO MIDST

Elbo JonesMidst is exceptional in all respects. Class.A deep and beautiful tale, exquisitely rendered by savvy, charming and talented artisans of the craft, draws the listener into an adventure that sweeps from quaint countryside to dizzying realms of cosmic heights, with humor and horror, with grace and flourish. This vivid masterwork will surely be an historical benchmark of what is possible in the medium.
-
BernslyAddictiveMidst is a story well-conceived and well-told. Unlike many fiction pods that give you the sense the creators had a good idea but weren’t sure where to run with it after a season or two, Midst feels like a complete story, like all of these events already unfolded (no pun intended) before the narrators ever said word one. And the story-telling method is top-notch, too.
-
DffujnbkopThe very best fiction podcastThe story telling method is innovative and so effective that it never falls into the weird for the sake of weird trap. The 3 narrators switch smoothly from describing the scene to acting the roles, bringing the characters and story vividly alive.
-
AnnagrassYou’ve never heard anything quite like MidstDelightful, fast-paced, innovative—a treat for fans of improv, sci-fi, westerns, musicals, worldbuilding, and more. Every detail matters—the naming systems are hilariously apt, side characters keep coming back—and yet the narrative style itself feels like a three person bicycle careening along a cliff’s edge.
-
fbeemceeObsessedI love this show so much. The characters, the world, the total originality of the storytelling. It’s all amazing!
-
CassyAugustSuperb StoriesThese actors are wonderful at bringing life and texture to the stories
-
JeffinWisconsinweirdPart audiobook, part old-timey radio play, Midst is like nothing else I’ve experienced. The three performers/creators do an astounding job: I could listen to them play these characters forever. Midst has inspired me to seek out more “weird fiction”, and I can’t wait to see how they finish up this story. Highly recommended!
-
Joshee.wardMust listen! If you like the unusual, the atmospheric, the surprising and the excellent this is the show for you. I’m both devastated that there are only three seasons but hopeful this world has more to offer in the future.

ReallyanowlIncredibleIt’s hard to describe this show and do it justice. Sometimes you get examples of a medium (whether podcasts, films, musicals, etc) that exemplify everything that makes THAT medium great. Everything it can do that others can’t. And sometimes you get something that transcends the medium it’s apart of. Midst does both. It proves definitively that fiction podcasts aren’t just a cheaper and easier-to-make substitute for a visual medium like tv shows. That they have something to bring to a story that other mediums CAN’T. Does it feel like I’m hyping this show up too much? Well I’m not. This show has confirmed how precious the medium is. That fiction podcasts need to be preserved and studied the same way novels and movies are. Basically it’s a great show. Take a listen.

WhathefungusNever heard anything like it!Really fun and unique! I became addicted fast. If you like unique sci-fi/fantasy with good narration and voice acting then this is worth your time.
-
malwadeSo unique. So good!Truly a mind-boggling story with absolutely stunning world building that breaks and creates so many rules of sci-fi (in the best way possible). Also love the tri-narrator experience!! I feel like I’m sitting around a campfire being spun a mysterious tale
-
Arlo_Space_RatOne of KindI absolutely am in love with the narrative and world building of midst. I have never listen to such a unique and yet captivating story before this one. Plus i’m in love with the weird wicked nature of the fold and all the descriptions they poured into it.
-
A_Nickname?Too goodI joined the hype train when I heard about it on Critical Role, and holy GOODNESS this is a good podcast. Make no mistake, this is the greatest improv media has ever seen. Listen. To. It. It’s a masterpiece in story, characters, and setting. All of threes things are complex, dynamic, and evolving constantly in ways even I can’t predict. The attention to detail is astounding, the narrators engaging, and I love the fresh take on a fictional work. I’m sad that it’s almost over. I’m excited to see where the narrators go next, though.
-
Jed I.Can’t get enough! This is so good! If you’ve played DnD or any other role playing game you’ll love this story. It’s like 3 DMs masterfully world building an incredibly unique and fast paced story. These narrators know what they are doing and loyal fans are rewarded with the richness of story that can be missed in the chaos of the first listen through. Very re-listenable, idk if that’s the right word, but if we’re lucky it might be the right word.

WijsMentatAmazingly craftedJumped back to listen to S1 again to catch up prior to the next season.

JambasticExtremely enjoyable. Amazing narration.Super blessed by the is production. Well executed storytelling that leaves me wanting more. Love the vivid descriptions of characters and events. It reminds me of the old drama hour shows on talk radio when I was a kid in the 80s. The website has some sweet features too. Thanks for an awesome experience.

ghrifhebsIt’s incredible! It’s witty, cleaver, leaves room for imagination, and gripping. Thank you for bringing such a wonderful podcast to the world!

LakeSBAn excellent sci-if western for people who don’t like sci-go westernsAn amendment from my earlier-posted review: just finished the most recent episode. OH. MY. GOSH. I was legitimately on the edge of my seat, wide-eyed, mouth agape, as that episode unfolded. Words cannot describe just how unbelievable INTENSE that episode was - I legit felt myself tear up after it ended from just she sheer magnitude of what had taken place… not just the drama but the TRAUMA of it. Unbelievable, in the best way possible. This show continues to blow me away! Give it a listen - you will NOT regret it! The first season was pretty good - a little tough to follow the three-narrator storytelling device at first, but the story was engaging, the characters were exciting, and the cliffhanger at the end was AWESOME. Season 2 is, arguably, 100X bigger and better than its preceding season. HOLY. COW. These first four episodes of S2 have been INTENSE, especially episode 4. Again - HOLY. COW. Can’t wait for each episode to drop each week! Keep up the great work!

unk()wnBeyond Worth the ListenFantastic story. Well written characters. Beautiful blend of comedic and mind-bogglingly dramatic. Flushed out settings with some of the best audio design out there!
-
jknox4Fantastic imageryReally taken aback by how clear the imagery tells the story, especially in episode 8. Excellent storytelling

DaMGMTGive it a few episodesMidst starts slowly. And I found the narrative style a challenge at first. But I gave it a shot and I’m glad I did. The characters, story, and mystery are engaging. I look forward to the new episode every Wednesday.

Not a Podcast PersonThe eerie space western you’ve been waiting for.I am not a podcast person. I have never been a podcast person. However, there are now two podcasts that I listen to /religiously/. Welcome To Night Vale, and now, Midst. WTNV has been the only podcast I’ve been able to get into for over a decade now. Midst feels like it takes place in the outer reaches of the WTNV galaxy. It is an IMMACULATE way to tell a story, and I am on the edge of my seat every episode. The way the narrators chat with each other reminds me of sports casters in a very strange way. This isn’t book narration, nor is it a radio broadcast. They’re telling you, live, exactly what’s happening. Or, their interpretations of it at least... 😉 The episodes of season one are nice and short at roughly fifteen minutes each, which makes it SUPER easy to get into the podcast. The episodes of season two are longer than season one, and it’s probably the best thing that could have ever happened to Midst! As a non-podcast person, I can’t recommend Midst enough. The background sound effects are outstanding, and the voices!! The /voices/!!! The three narrators sound as if they were put into this universe just to bring their voices together in beautiful, and sometimes eerie harmony. If you like sci-fi, WTNV, space adventures in general, and a little bit of Critical Role, Dimension 20, and other live-play ttrpgs: Midst is the best choice of podcast for you. TLDR: Midst is the best. It’s fun to say. Go listen to it. 😎

Super CariCan’t recommend it enough!Fantastic and engaging story!! Told in a wonderful way by three narrators that keep it all so interesting!

Sarcastic ZWorth itReviews can mean little as we, you and I, are strangers, but if you can take a stranger’s word for it, I promise everything I will type will be in utter honesty. I first heard about the podcast on critical role I merely shrugged it off as it didn’t sound like it would be my cup of tea, I listen to most CR episodes as a podcast regardless but for some reason I just wasn’t sold that Midst would be entertaining for me. The entirety of their first season had come out and I still hadn’t even given it a chance. When the time finally came and I popped the first episode on… I couldn’t stop. I have truly never experienced anything like this but in the best way possible. The story felt scattered at first but I think i was just trying to find my own footing in this new world cuz they do an EXCELLENT job of immersing you in immediately!! everything clicks together so beautifully my jaw was kept consistently on the floor. When I listened to their roundtable i was only MORE amazed to find out it’s not even scripted?? I have the utmost respect for the work everyone puts into this show and I am in constant awe when I press play. From the sounds, the word play, their own voices, the smallest of details all add to a beautiful beautiful experience I cannot stop yapping to my friends about. My words will not do my feelings justice. This has made me laugh, sniffle, and sit panicked at the edge of my seat, hanging off the words they say. This and more is exactly why I am typing this all out to you, dear stranger, for this was an experience I want many others to have a crack at. That is, if you take my word for it :)

AJofromPAI'm hookedIt took me several tries to get into Midst. Finally, I put my headphones and listened to the first six episodes in one sitting and now I can say that I am hooked. The story being told from three unreliable narrators takes some getting used to, but the plot, characters, and sound design won me over. I am all caught up and now I need to wait each week for new episodes, but it is worth the wait.
