    Gregory Maguire
Great listen! Doug, you asked Gregory about other reimagined stories. Jennifer Donnelly has a few really really good reimagined stories. Step Sister - about Cinderella, Poisoned - about Snow White, and Beastly Beauty - about Beauty and the Beast. She would be a great interview on your show!!

Doug Brunt has introduced me to a number of people I would have never discovered. Very interesting, terrific interviewer. Will continue to listen!

Learned a lot about Nelson DeMille
Thanks to your interview I will read more of his novels. May I ask how soon before his death you recorded this. The podcast seems to be from September 2024, the same month that he died. Thank you.

    Loved it!
This is the first Doug Brunt show I’ve listened to….so interesting. I totally understand the author’s love of research and digging through archives. It was the best part of college (many, many moons ago.) Looking forward to continued listening, and sparking my desire to get back to reading actual books again (way too much politics & X!!)

    Great podcast
Love your podcast! My husband and I love you (and Megyn’s) podcasts. I appreciate all the book recommendations and we loved your diesel book. Do you think you could get Kristin Hannah on your show? Thank you Doug!

    Let the people speak
I gave 5 stars but please stop interrupting your guests and talking over them. PS- your book was fantastic

    Refreshing!
What a refreshing podcast, and just not because they start off with what sounds like ice clinking for delicious cocktails, but because Doug leaves out the politics (for the most part) and liberal nonsense that we normally get with every other writing and author podcast out there. Thank you for keeping the listener in mind and sticking to the point!

This is amazing. The perfect place to go when looking for a book recommendation, or simply just to know more. Highly recommend. Short but sweet commentary from the host, too. Overall it is put together well, with thought and purpose in every episode.

    Great interviews!
I’m so enjoying these interviews with great authors. It’s almost like I’m having a drink and a conversation with friends at the local. Doing a wonderful job, Doug! I hope this series hasn’t ended.

    Incredible Podcast
I follow only a very few podcasts. This one has moved up the list to my absolute favorite. It has given me a new urgency to spend more time reading. The only downside is that after every interview I have to order another book or two (or three). The queue is growing rapidly….

Please invite “Robert Galbraith”. Her Cormoran Strike series is very enjoyable.

    An encouragement to writers everwhere
Doug, l so greatly appreciate your podcast because it gives readers a better appreciation for what it takes to produce enjoyable literature and a glimpse into the life of our favorite writers. I finally got a chance to listen to your Diesel book and l just have to say that l wish all history professors had the ability(and time, resources, etc.) to teach their history subjects the same way you have presented this interesting slice of world history. As a history buff and bibliophile, l really enjoyed the way you filled in all the historical context around these interesting characters and told a thrilling story. Even as l listened to the "golden voice" of Mr. Brick(loved that interview), several times l could hear your voice in the writing. I liked your nod to your podcast by pointing out Diesel's drink of choice. This is a fabulous book!

Writers Revealed - Doug elicits great stories
Doug Brunt asks great questions and shows that writers are great storytellers not only in print, but in interviews as well. Doug’s empathetic, direct, down-to-earth nature connects with the writers he interviews. He draws them out and lets them shine. It makes me want to read almost every book every writer he’s interviewed has written. Author recommendations: Bianca Bosker author of “Get The Picture”, a revelatory tell-all take on the art world (that I’m loving right now) and “Cork Dork”, about wine connoisseurship. Also: Jonathan Haidt, Arthur C. Brooks, David Brooks, Gretchen Rubin, and Malcom Gladwell (much to Douglas Murray’s dismay).

Enjoyed the heck out of that interview. Would loved to see how it went with some libations flowing with this gentleman.

    Great show! But the cherries….
I enjoy this show immensely. Hearing the “behind the scenes” thoughts of authors is quite entertaining. I will be recommending it to my book club members. However, in listening to the Mike Rowe podcast and hearing Mr. Brunt extol the greatness of the Luxardo cherry for a Manhattan was a little upsetting. My husband and I have consumed our fair share of Manhattans and have discovered the Griottines Cherries in Kirsh (cherry liqueur) to be far superior to the Luxardo. Give them a try. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Looking forward to future episodes and drink ideas.

    Author suggestions
Doug, I simply love your pod cast and how it opens me to authors I knew nothing of. My dream is to read a book from every author you interview. You always ask for author suggestions. Rob Lowe’s books are terrific and he is a very good writer. He would be a great interview. I also recommend Charlie Donlea. He writes crime thrillers. All are captivating. His history is interesting as he was an optometrist before he started wring! Thanks for all of the episodes.

So sorry, but I couldn’t resist. Love this episode. I watched him on Megyn’s show and found him just as funny and interesting on your show! Love to listen to two men act 12! I’m a pre-K teacher. Boys will be boys. I love it!! Great time. Thank you for the great laugh.

    Best non -political podcast
We love listening to your interviews! You seem to genuinely enjoy speaking with the authors and sharing insights with your audience. Please see if Maggie O’Farrell meets your criteria. I just finished her book ‘The Marriage Portrait ‘. I was mesmerized by her ability to bring her characters and the time period to life.

    To Doug at Dedicated
Hi Doug I found you via Megan’s podcast. I love the concept and you have a nice voice. I tune you in when I’m trying to fall asleep, usually at 3:00 AM. Problem is your interviews are good so they keep me awake! I’m 72 and now have the audacity to think I will take a stab at writing a book. It’s actually based on my daughters story of her experience of delivering a preemie. She will actually write the book and I will be her person to pre read and help her buff it up, at least that’s the plan. I will put her on to Dedicated because there are lots of good tips for writers in your method segment. I hope one day she will be on your show. Keep up the good work kid and give my regards to your lovely wife, another great interviewer!! All the best, Gigi

    Great Show
Great show. It’s fascinating learning about the writing process from different authors. The lighting round is entertaining. It would be great to have John Sandford, Craig Johnson, Peter Swanson, David Grann, Joseph Wambaugh, Simon Winchester, or Bill Bryson on the show.

    Love this podcast
Such a refreshing change from a lot of the podcasts I listen to to keep up on the news. I enjoy the cocktails, learning about new books, and Doug’s general low key demeanor and thoughtful questions.

    Guest Suggestion
I used to be a big reader then the kids and life came. This podcast has helped me resurrect my desire to read. (And the kids are grown..) Guest suggestion: Dr Doug Tallamay. His books about reasonable and sensible stewardship of our properties without all the sky is falling hype of ecowarriors have sparked a grassroots movement to improve biodiversity one yard at a time.

Thoroughly enjoying this conversation with Gad Saad.
Love the give and take between these two exemplary storytellers.
  • MikeFEdwards
    This is a great listen.
I was introduced to the podcast via Megyn Kelly’s show and was originally reluctant to add another show to my weekly listening. However, after hearing Mr. Brunt discussing his show on his wife’s show I knew that I would subscribe and catch up on all episodes this weekend. Mission accomplished. I know that I could get my wife to listen to any episodes with Karen Kingsbury, Debbie Macomer or James Patterson. Having already offered Lee Child, I would have to suggest R.A. Salvatore, Jim Butcher and Terry Brooks. They’re likely a departure from your reading list. Best of luck in all your future endeavors and blessings to you and your family.

    Timely interview
Can you or your wife PLEASE have Erik Larson on to talk about the parallels, if any, that he sees between today’s western political environment and 1930s Germany? I have been a huge fan of Larson’s ever since his first novel, and I admire his level of research. I recently finished In The Garden Of Beasts and The Splendid And The Vile, and I am seeing a LOT of parallels to modern day which bother me. It would be wonderful if Erik could come on your podcast or Megyn’s to discuss what he thinks about current events. If he doesn’t want to go there, it would still be wonderful to hear— completely devoid of any modern geopolitics— what he learned about the rise of the 3rd Reich during the course of researching his books, and how societies can avoid falling into the same traps in the future.

I love this podcast! I’ve ordered books after listening to the different authors and have found to authors to follow! Thank you!

    Really enjoying this!!!
I heard about this when Doug’s book about Rudolf Diesel (which is a fascinating read) came out. I started from Episode 1 and I’m catching up. So far my favorite is Lee Child. I’ve loved every Reacher novel and that discussion gave me new insights to that character. All of these episodes have done likewise with their characters and topics. Thank you for introducing me to these authors. I read a lot. You’ve given me a great reason to read even more!!! P.S. I would love to hear from Michael Connelly and Erik Larson.

    Great pod!
I was turned onto it by Megyn Kelly (who hosts one of my favorite podcasts). Suggestion: talk with Boris Johnson, former British PM and author of a great biography of Winston Churchill.

Always enjoy your podcasts. Your kind and nice personality comes through and provides you the skills to disarm and engage your interviewees. They always have a pleasant time with you and therefore so do I, as the listener. Also, read your book on Rudolph Diesel. Loved it! Thank you.
