So far my favorite, thanks Mike! You’re an excellent interviewer.

    The Gold Standard
Much like the beloved Ugly Things magazine the accompanying podcast is the gold standard for great lesser known bands and artists. Just listened to a deep dive into the Pretty Things majestic Parachutes album and learned new things about a favorite album. Well worth plunging into!

    The drone!
I just listened to the first Velvets episode, and the source of the Banana album drone sound traced back to its origins really blew my mind! Kind of like the Stokhausen/ Kraftwerk connection. None of this was born in a vacuum. There’s always something to learn, thanks Mike for the obsession and energy. I love hearing the song clips alongside the interviews, too.

    Excellent new podcast
Mike Stax finally got on board the trend with his own podcast and it’s going to be a winner. The first 2 episodes are shorter with a focus on Thus and The Troggs while the third one expands to over an hour and focuses on Clear Light. Interesting interviews, good music good stories. I really appreciate the show on Thus which was a high school band that created an exceptional record in 68. Thanks Mike and keep up the good work.

    Wow! I’m hooked!
These first episodes are perfect. So well done. I’m not surprised by how great this podcast is considering it’s coming from legend-in-his-own-right Mike Stax but still …these first episodes immediately rank this as crucial listening on the level of ‘The History of Rock Music in 500 Songs’ podcast. Brilliant.
  • Super Shameful
    Excellent Companion to UT Magazine
Like others, I have been a long-time reader of UT Magazine along with the books written by Mike Stax (“Swim Through The Darkness” is phenomenal). His passion for rock-n-roll also extends to performance and the various bands he’s been a part of have made fantastic recordings and are well worth seeking out (The Loons being my personal favorite). With so many good music podcasts out there, I always wondered if UT would take the plunge into this medium. Well, they finally did and kicking things off with The Troggs was a perfect way to do it. (I’m hoping a Phil May episode is in the works.) Thanks Mike, and keep ‘‘em coming!

    A fantastic show!
As a long time subscriber to Ugly Things Magazine I’m very excited that Mike Stax has decided to do a podcast. The first one on The TROGGS was interesting and informative. I can’t wait to see what’s next. Thank you Mike for all you do to keep rock n roll alive!

Great podcast about a great era!!!
Mike Stax goes from a name on a shipping label to the host of a podcast that I didn’t know I needed! Back when the magic, mystery and majesty of rock-n-roll captivated all the happening young people! Keep ‘em coming, Mike!
