Fruit Love Letters

Fruit Love Letters is a curious dive into the Anthropocene through fruit-colored glasses. Host Jessamine Starr may not be a botanist, historian, farmer or an expert on fruit, but as a chef in Atlanta she's simply had a lifetime love affair with it. So, she began penning love letters to fruit. This podcast pairs those letters with her desires to learn more. From the miraculous survival adventure of the avocado, to the nurturing personality of a fig, we’ll traverse the world of fruit through emotional meanderings and expanding a hunger for more information. Through discussions with farmers, scientists, chefs and enthusiasts, Fruit Love Letters proves that there is so much we didn’t know about fruit, from the blueberries you sprinkle on your cereal or that seemingly mundane apple snack, both in historical fact and mystique.Fruit Love Letters is part of Whetstone Radio Collective. What a treat!
Such a delightful podcast. I loved the love letters and unique stories and I learned a lot in the process. Thanks for your great work and I’m hoping for a season 2!

    Incredible
Soothing, sensual and dreamy. I savor these episodes the way the host savors every fruit she writes about. As a professional in the food industry this podcast helps me connect with my younger self whose interest in food was rooted in desire and curiosity (before my days became filled with email, sales figures and currency fluctuations). It spurs me to enjoy my life and chase my earthly passions. I truly treasure the host’s slow, winding approach to talking and taking pleasure in fruit.

    Great find!
Expert writing and interesting stories! Not overly edited like so many otherwise good podcasts out there (like 99 PI, whyyy do you need 4 people to say just one paragraph??).

Fruit for both sides of your brain
Fruit Love Letters hits the full spectrum from art to science. It is poetry, emotion, taste, history, data, facts - centered on fruit and satisfying both sides my brain. Being an archivist I really appreciate the various voices and the historical sources that Jessamine brings to the show. She along with her knowledgeable guests, help us to see the natural world from many perspectives. For most of us, this is cool stuff we are completely unaware of as we devour our favorite fruits everyday. It is amazing how much ground she covers in each episode and I come away in awe of the journey my blueberries have made. And if both sides of my brain are happy then I’m happy.

    Wonderful!
The only bad thing about listening to this podcast is your yearning for each and every delectable bite of fruit that Jessamine discusses. She weaves fascinating tidbits about the fruit with her own clever stories and tales. What a treat!

    Fruit appreciation
This podcast focuses on a different fruit in each episode and is a wonderful quick dive into the history and science behind some familiar and also more unusual fruits. You’ll hear from experts, growers, and connoisseurs of items that otherwise might get taken for granted.

What a delicious podcast Atlanta chef Jesssmine Starr serves up with two initial podcasts that take us on journeys with guest interviews with folks who have her passion and interest in sharing history, improving the resiliency, and availability of natures sweetest gifts! Her own passion for fruit is a treat to hear. An Atlanta treasure. Thank you Whetstone Radio Collective!!
