The Flamethrowers

137

“The Flamethrowers” captures the punch-you-in-the-mouth energy and sound of right-wing talk radio. Host Justin Ling takes us from the fringe preachers and conspiracy peddlers of the 1920s to the political firestorm that rages today. With humour and candour, Ling examines the appeal of broadcasters like Rush Limbaugh, who found a sleeping audience, radicalized it, and became an accidental kingmaker — culminating in the election of Donald Trump.

    Ah yes, pure sensationalism
This is Canadian communist-driven sensationalism at its finest; pure propaganda!!! This is absolute one-sided, biased garbage.

    Great summary but…
This is a great historical account of the influence of broadcast terrorism. The only failure in this account is the lack of motives. What drove and motivated these bad actors to do what they did? I feel this should be explored to tell the full story. Who fed the narratives and who benefits from this cancer seeping into our homes through the airwaves.

When are podcasts going to grow up?
Yet another podcast that has interesting and well-researched material but lacks the confidence in itself to present that material without incessant background music and gratuitous sound effects.

    We’ll worth your time
Such a good history of the rise of Trump and the profiting from anger.

    Memories of my childhood
I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s and had very conservative grandparents who influenced the family. Carl McIntire, Billy J. Hargis, The Beacon, the National Council of Churches was talked about all the time and brought great fear to me as a kid growing up wondering if I’d live to be an adult because of Communism taking over.

    So, so, good!
History, perspective, logic, raw, educational, almost shocking except… many of us see the issue already however, I was unaware of the back story and now I am gobsmacked. I’m on episode 4 and blown away. Thank you so much for diving into this clearly decades long phenomena ❤️

    Next episode always late
I love this show. It’s informative, historical, fascinating. But the episodes don’t come out on time. And now it’s been 2 weeks since the last one with one more episode to go and it’s supposed to be weekly. Bummer!!!

    2363.org?
Fascinating podcast but having 2363.org (anti-abortion/anti-choice nonsense) as a sponsor is disappointing

    FANTASTIC!!!
I listened to this and was blown away. This podcast takes the listener to the origins of the madness that the Trump boot lickers didn’t want yo know. Even with this truth being placed right in front of them; these boot lickers will close their eyes and cover their ears.

    Rush episode
Had to skip to episode 3. Can’t stand the sound of Rush Limpball’s voice.

    Very Interesting
Throroughly researched podcast about the rise of right wing radio in the US. This is sure to upset some people but this is a well done podcast that presents its side well.

    Terrific
A well researched, important and well told story from an interesting perspective

    Very interesting
This show is very well researched and beautifully presented. Hilarious that all the trump-licks crawl about seeing what they can knee-jerk ‘rate’ and ‘review’, but without the ability to string together a sensible sentence supporting the drooling assaults. Seems like the whiter of folks often can’t stomach the facts of their own historical actions...strange fruit. Reps gag chode.

The history of Right Wing Talk Radio
After listening to the first 2 episodes I’m impressed with the research done for this podcast, this style of radio started way before Rush Limbaugh, and it goes through the steps that lead up to where we are today in our politics and the state of our comradery of our citizens, independent thinking is part of our democracy, but these right wing talk radio hosts have done a pretty good job of destroying us, better than any typical foe. This podcast also has some much needed lightness and tasteful humor sprinkled in.
