A Real Respect for Games Journalism and Quality Sandwiches
I love listening to these cheeky gentleman who have true love and respect for the medium of games journalism and are devoted to keeping this podcast fresh, funny and (occasionally) appropriately irreverent.

    A blast! 👾
Listening to The Back Page is honestly just as much fun as playing the games Matthew and Samuel chat about! No matter the topic, every episode is engaging, informative, and entertaining. Highly recommend!

    Great laugh
This is one of the best video game podcasts around hosted by two genuinely funny and knowledgeable men. Additionally, both of them have great laughs. I have a high bar for podcaster laughs and these guys are S rank (which means great).

    Funny hosts, great show
These guys are very funny and enjoyable to listen to. Most importantly, they aren’t full of themselves. It’s a mystery how certain other podcast hosts can take themselves so seriously when they’re discussing retro video games for fun. I need to be careful when listening to this podcast because I find myself regularly laughing out loud.

    My Favorite Video Games Podcast
I listen to too much games media, and this is my favorite one. What makes it work well is the mix of contemporary gaming news/reviews, older video game nostalgia romps, and behind the curtain insight into games journalism. If you remember gaming in the 90s and still enjoy gaming today I can’t think of a better show out there for you.

    Fun Show
My one suggestion — repeat the name of the game you’re speaking about a couple times as you talk. Oftentimes I miss the name when you first say it. Great show!

    GamesPodcastTM
As a UK expat living in Katy, Texas, this is just the thing I need to cure all my homesickness, give me everything I miss from all my old favourite gaming magazines and even enrich my treasured collection (new pastime: scour through old mags to read Sam and Matthew’s reviews!). I love the format, the presenters and even the infamous sandwich chat. Thanks for giving me something great to look forward to each week on my commute to work in the Lone Star state and keep up the great work!

    Classy and Hungry
I was personally asked to review the show on the most recent episode. I don’t use Apple Podcasts but I set it up just to support! This is my favorite games podcast. Even when the topic is a series/genre I have little interest in or know nothing about, Matthew and Samuel bring interesting perspectives, professionalism (yes, I mean this), and have fantastic chemistry as hosts. Their love for the interesting 7/10 has pointed me in direction of a lot of great games and they have a knack for finding great guests. Keep up the great work!

    Great Insightful Conversations About Gaming
I have listened to more than a few gaming podcasts (polygon, kotaku, triple click) but this has become my favorite. Some really interesting ideas happen here, even if it’s not incredibly high budget. I am hooked.

    5 star gaming pod.
A must listen to podcast that really gives you a chance to get the insight of to out of their prime game journalist. No just kidding, their takes are timeless.

    Simply Delightful
This is an excellent gaming podcast with great insights into an extremely wide variety of video games. Best of all they provide interesting commentary on video games journalism with plenty of funny anecdotes and stories from their own careers. For instance, listening to Matt Castle explain why he loves Mario Bros. so much and how they have influenced his magazine career is wonderful each time it comes up. (And I’m not even that big of Mario Bros. fan personally.) Sam and Matt keep everything humming along and they’re always mixing up the format and keeping things fresh with a variety of shows from interviews, best of, gaming drafts, and more. It’s simply a delight to see a new episode of my favorite podcast (this one) roll on to my phone each week.

    When one door closes…
I was so disappointed when RPS’s Weekspot ended, but on the last episode Mat gave this podcast a plug and I decided to give it a try. I’m really enjoying it! Love how good natured the guys are.

A must for an person who bought a game magazine for when they were a teen!
I stumbled along this when Mat appeared on the pitch please pod and found him to be hilarious. Now he bounces off Sam and the two together make magic. This is my priority one podcast to listen to now. A must for any commute. If you were a kid of the 90s or love gaming and or gaming magazines you will not be disappointed!

    Essential listening!
If you’re at all interested in the craft behind games magazines or games media in general, this podcast is essential! The two hosts each bring a decade and a half of games journalism experience to the table, resulting in some surprisingly insightful conversations. Those insights are, of course, sprinkled in between Matthew’s Rennie obsession and Samuel’s terrible eBay purchases. Highly recommended!

Simply the best video game podcast
Sam and Matt have fantastic chemistry in what has quickly become my favorite video games podcast. As a gamer in my 30s now, I’ve come to appreciate discussion on the process of video game development almost as much as the games themselves. This show is a must listen for any gamers who are interested in going deeper than the gameplay.

    Great podcast with great hosts
Excellent show with informed and interesting opinions. No political garbage as they focus on games and have great insight. Too three video game shows going in my opinion. Thank you!

Here for the Matthew Castle podcast empire
I’ve really enjoyed listening to the RPS podcast over the years and appreciate the slightly longer form discussions here too. Matthew Castle is a charming, slightly neurotic everyman, and Samuel Roberts seems interesting and insightful. Love it so far. Keep up the good work. Also please take care of your teeth Matthew.

Fascinating look into game journalism thought and history
I was excited for this podcast since I’m a fan of Matt Castle from RockPaperShotgun fame. The conversations here are personal and some might find it indulgent, but it’s fascinating for someone who doesn’t have much knowledge of this side of journalism. The thought these guys have put into their careers, perspectives, and arguments is really interesting and refreshing. So far I think it’s a great listen for anyone who enjoys reading articles about gaming.
