Generation Jihad

213

The war against Islamic Jihadism is defining generations. It was our father’s war, it’s our war, and will most likely be our children’s war. The FDD' s Long War Journal team has been researching and reporting for over two decades on the jihadists fueling this terror. “Generation Jihad” features LWJ Editors Bill Roggio and Caleb Weiss as they diagnose the black and white motivations behind the world’s most notorious terrorists, report on their expanding malign activities, and offer their prescriptions for confronting the multi-generational menace that is Islamic Jihadism.

    This should be required listening
This podcast is part of the solution needed as a requirement in all high schools and universities. The problem that needs to be solved is the indoctrination of teachers and college professors subject to Qatar’s decade long soft power influence campaign. Update Jan. 2025. In the episode entitled Domestic Terrorism there is a suggestion that “stable family men don’t commit suicide attacks.” This is a similar claim Sam Harris often points to as fundamentally flawed. As he says, people in the west refuse to accept that many Muslims truly believe Islam instructs them to commit violent Jihad to spread the word of Allah and that by doing so they will go straight to paradise. Yes, he insists, many really believe it. In polls, up to 70 percent of Palestinians support suicide bombings. It’s not insanity. It’s Islam. That not bigotry, that is pointing out a fact about an idea, not prejudice against an ethnic group. We in the west think this is crazy, but it’s their sincere belief that is crazy, not necessarily their mental health. Stable family men do commit suicide bombings.

    Please improve your tone
I’m giving this 3 stars because I support the Long War Journal and think everyone involved here does important work. But gentlemen, the tone has gotten absolutely unbearable. They guy who said “ever heard of Google” in the most recent episode is a child. You’re not funny and no one is listening to this to hear your jokes. Why can’t you just be professional and soberly address issues like an adult?
  • uuhdgjbi
Poorly researched, amateurish, bad audio issues, and lots of dead air.
If you like being wrong then listen to this podcast and repeat the parts you can make out.

One of my go-to podcasts re: The Long War and the Israel/Gaza War
I can’t remember how I discovered this podcast, but it is absolutely incredible. Presented by scholars who know what they’re doing, who know what they’re talking about, and are unafraid to reflect on issues that impact us all. This has been and will continue to be not just a long war, but THE Long War against terror. Definitively worth your time.

Great, Great Podcast - The beat
This is the most informative podcast about all topic related to Generation Jihad. I just listened to the latest podcast with Joe Truzman hosting and interviewing Benham Talibu. It was just superb. Bill Roggio is a rockstar. FDD has just outstanding experts on their subject matter. Outstanding just outstanding! I have sent our Son podcast links. He is an Army Infantry officer.

    Love it
Great podcast. I appreciate that no left vs right politics are injected into conversation. After a couple dozen episodes I can’t even guess where the host sits politically because he never pontificates. Thanks!

    FDD deceives its listeners
As a student of NatSec policy and former staffer, I decided to take a listen to this podcast. From a few minutes in, I could something was off, so I decided to look into FDD. In its own admission, it was created to "provide education to enhance Israel's image in North America" and in years since has accepted millions from Qatar to host conferences in order to disseminate their proganda. Any listener of this show is not getting an unvarnished point of view on issues of such serious import.

Driven by biases and cherry-picked facts from biased sources
I used to listen before the Afghanistan NEO and fell off. I was hoping to hear an objective take on the current events in Gaza/Palestine. Instead, it is incredibly pro-Israel content fueled by data from the IDF. Unfortunately, this topic is such a polarized issue, that individuals who used to provide great coverage on terrorism-related issues have fallen victim to the propaganda machine. I was disappointed to hear the dismissiveness of the humanitarian crisis, the casual throwaway of Palestinian civilian casualties (I.e., take it upfront or at the end), and the absolute arrogance of the hosts. To state that the US, Europe, and UN (among other international organizations) are wrong or acting in ignorance when the hosts are only considering IDF info as legitimate is insane. Imagine telling the whole world plus those informed by intelligence that they’re wrong and the perpetrators of mass-casualty attacks and mass-displacement that their actions are without critique. Israel is not infallible.

Have been following Bill since Afghanistan. Wish the administration was as sensible. Wish they were wrong in their assessment. Almost always correct.

    Good, but biased
Good podcast as far as information regarding terror groups around the world. I have learned a lot. However, it is very Pro-Israel and conservative politically.

    11/1/2023: Great Podcast.
The Battle of Gaza sounds terrifying - a combination of Stalingrad’s urban warfare and Iwo Jima’s interconnecting tunnels, camouflaged harden defenses & thousands of fanatical defenders. Questions: Why isn’t the UN condemning Hamas for government corruption/using its humanitarian donations to build military installations under & around civilian infrastructure? Why isn’t the UN condemning Hamas for using the civilian population, that Hamas is responsible for governing & protecting, as human shields by not evacuating them from areas adjacent to military facilities? Why aren’t the countries supportive of Hamas - like Qatar, Turkey & Iran offering to take in Gaza refugees as immigrants? When will the Islamic Republic of Iran’s theocracy be held accountable for its proxies actions? What happens if/when Hezbollah fires a salvo of missiles at one of the US offshore carrier battle groups? Why don’t we believe them when they chant, “Death to America.” US appeasement. Were the Islamic Republic of Iran’s proxies funded with the Shah’s money the Obama & Biden administrations returned to a known state sponsor of terrorism? Did the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard train their proxies? Their leadership must be laughing at us - “the Americans funded years of successful IED & missile attacks in Iraq & Syria killing their soldiers; missile attacks on Israel; Hamas’s sophisticated missile air/land/sea sneak attack & subsequent pogrom of 1,400 mostly civilians and IDF female soldiers; then the Americans believed us when we said we did not fund or train our proxies and had nothing to do with it - Death to the Great Satan and the Little Satan.” Do we really believe the Islamic Republic of Iran ever stopped working on developing its own nuclear weapon? When the Islamic Republic of Iran eventually gets its own nuclear weapon, do we believe that they or one of their proxy terrorist groups, will not use it on Israel as the ultimate pogrom - 1.4 million mostly Jewish civilians - then use it on a US or Western European target?

Clear, honest, and always well researched
I’ve followed Bill and Tom through the Long War Journal, FDD, and now Generation Jihad. Time and again for years they get it right when so few do. They cut through everyone’s agendas. I know they have a strong following with people whose lives depend on understanding the landscape in this very messy arena.

    Credible
These guys accept what they do and do not know and tell it like it is. Huge knowledge on the Islamic Terrorism threat.

    Has potential
This show has potential but the amount of time the hosts complain about being outsiders and scorned by everyone in the national security community gives me the impression they have an inferiority complex. Stick to the content, not the whining.

    You predicted it!
The humiliation and catastrophe of our Afghanistan ‘withdrawal’. Daryl Cooper and Jocko Willink give you credit for seeing Afghanistan as it was and as it is and forever will be….

    Love the Content—Needs Production
My husband and I love listening to this podcast. The authors are incredibly well-read and share fascinating background and context regarding the War on Terror. It’s been very useful and instructive given the recent evolution of Afghanistan. Just some user feedback: this podcast would greatly benefit from increased attention from a sound engineer. The speakers sound as though they move close to the mic, then further away. Often when thoughtful commentary ensues, voices get very quiet, then there are eardrum-shattering coughs that aren’t edited out, or starts to a new sentence that make it very difficult/frustrating to listen. It sounds like a small thing, but especially listening on our commute, it’s really rough listening at times.
  • rvg75
    Please keep the audio consistent
I tried to listen but it sounded like one of the hosts was too far from mic … but if you turn it up someone else comes in super loud.
  • nightman_cmw
    slanted but high quality
The hosts are awkward and can be long-winded. The bias of the show is unabashedly pro-war, and the podcast does not attempt to present a balanced perspective. But the hosts are incredibly knowledgeable and well-informed. It's the best in depth information about what's actually going on in Afghanistan you will find anywhere. Nothing else comes even close, and you'll get insights and perspectives you won't get anywhere else.

    Sound
Sound is god awful... First, the mics are at different volumes... Why someone can’t use a mixing board before releasing podcast or during live show is beyond me... Edit out the person breathing into the mic, doors closing, dogs barking and turn up the mic of the person whispering Second... Fix the order of shows... Listeners want to listen to 1 of 8 first... Third... Cut the dead time between episodes... Listeners would like to listen to 1/8 then a commercial or two not dead air before 2/8... An extra commercial better then a needless music delay/dead air Fourth... Don’t run identical commercials at the end and beginning of episodes... Why does anyone want to listen to the same commercial twice in a row or pay for it A kid in high school with a mixing board could clean the shows unbearable sound... To listen to this podcast one must re-order episodes first then adjust volume constantly

    Why don’t our politicians listen?
After 9-11 the nation was focused on the threats posed by the evil groups that wish we were dead. That is over. Complex challenges are ignored and our political leaders from both parties pay no attention to the threats. If they listened to these podcasts we would be much safer - let’s hope they do before the next attack —-

    Review after 29th episode
    1. Terrific podcast concept. 2. Fascinating subject 3. Please send Tom Jocelyn on an extended vacation. Not interested in Mr. Jocelyn’s low opinion of the American President. Elitist Jocelyn probably has a low opinion of US veterans as well. Good bye.

    Best analysis
You won’t find more smart, in-depth analysis about the endless war on AQ, ISIS, Taliban and other malign forces. Started listening to these guys after 9/11 on WABC in NYC, have learned so much from them and continue to learn. This is a generational battle. Won’t end this year, next year or maybe 100 years. Start listening and learning who these bad guys are, how they operate, and how to fight them. I find these podcasts strangely relaxing as well.

    The Faithful
Keep it up guys! You have kept the faith even though many of our leaders have forgotten about the Jihadi threat that spawned 9/11. The best way to honor the sacrifices of brave Americans is to make sure it was not in vain. “There is no substitute for Victory”.

These 2 guys are not just a pair of tireless information warriors but more like a pair of trusted hunting dogs that nevr lose the scent of the jihadis. Thank you for peeling back the layers of jihadi propaganda, foreign staete misdirection, and the often rose-colored over simplified DOD press releases.

This show is a must listen
If you want to know what’s going on w the Islamic fundamentalist threat, than this pod is a must. As a veteran of OEF, I appreciate the candor and detail of this podcast. Thanks to the long war journal for keeping us informed.

    ***Important*** Understanding the withdrawal agreement
This podcast is important to understand the US withdrawal agreement from Afghanistan and the failure of both power and policy in fighting Islamic terrorism. The leadership can’t explain what we are doing, what we want, nor a plan. God knows where we will end up. I sense a continuing disaster. The enemy gets a vote.
