JoJo5501The other side of the same coinThese guys are as pius and condescending as the fundies they despise.

AniheartsjapanTrump supporters?! No thanks!I listened to this podcast the first year or so after I found them and they were helpful and encouraging. But NOW, oh my! What happened to these men? They went from being the ex-IFB supposedly trying to help others recover to exactly the kind of people they were helping people RECOVER from. Their most recent episode was them just BSing for maybe half an hour before starting the actual topic and then they are just willing to endorse voting for Trump?! Sickening. I won't ever listen to these jokers again.

bretandjenniIFB reinventedLiterally the same attitude as all IFB. The only difference is they aren’t afraid of alcohol and drums in music.

ChickenKing1Legalist without being IFBInitially I enjoyed the podcast & RFP movement and what it stood for. With more time, it became apparent that in some ways it’s just another form of legalism in religion, anchoring deep in bitterness and lacking in being empathetic & grace for all those who profess Jesus as Lord. I think the RFP movement started off right, but overtime has spiraled into a group with some hurt people who are falsely justified in hurting others. Many times, there is forum & Facebook page talk of the hurt the IFB placed on those recovering, but it has been very rare I saw those within the RFP movement talk about the hurt they caused while being independent, fundamental baptists. The leaders and moderators seem to be more driven to find church fame than to live for the bigger God-given mission. I believe many of them have fallen back into the old habits of their IFB heritage: shaming, mocking, and blocking those whom they do not like, agree with, or care for. Be better, the mission of Jesus is bigger than our own fame.

Idk...who am i? :)Take a listen😊This is a great show filled with biblically grounded advice and teaching, especially if you are navigating finding freedom from the chains of fundamentalism. God is using these men for great things. I have personally seen all of them share the gospel countless times, and they all love the Lord wholeheartedly. Great Job Brian, JC, and Dad! Proud of y’all🩷 -Elise Cravatt

Ray DubyahPhenomenal Podcast…Put Words to What I Already FeelI grew up in an IFB church in New England. It’s been 17 years since I’ve been in the IFB, but recently I’ve been realizing the extent of the hurt that was done to me as a result of the IFB and how it has affected my view of God. Whenever I have tried to talk about it to others, I could tell they really didn’t get what I was talking about, which made me feel very alone. Discovering RFP has given me a voice and made me realize the size of the ex-Fundie community and that I am not alone. JC, Nathan, and Brian, thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you are doing on this podcast. God is using you to speak into my life in a big way, and I know he is using you in the lives of many others in the ex-Fundie community. THANK YOU!!

BLee215Wolves in sheep’s clothingThey can be helpful if you’re trying to get out of legalistic IFB churches, but then you realize they act just like legalistic IFB pastors if you don’t agree with them 100%. JC has embarrassed himself on social media more times than I can count, constantly attacking and slandering people, making anon accounts that are rude, inappropriate, and ungodly, and acting bitterly towards anyone with a different opinion. He has to delete his tweets all the time because they are evidence of his poor character. Someone who acts like this shouldn’t be a podcast host (much less a pastor) talking about God because his life doesn’t matchup with what he says. He has hurt the cause of Christ in many people. “Truth doesn’t fear a challenge” is his favorite quote, but then he deletes his countless ungodly tweets and blocks anyone who disagrees with him or points out that he isn’t acting in a way that pleases Christ. I guess it’s easy to deal with “truth” when all you do is surround yourself with yes men that bow to everything you say! 🤷♂️👎

MangohickA Millennial’s Take on the RFPTLDR: For Biblical guidance out of a life of legalism, listen to more established pastors. For funny takes on IFB life, listen to this podcast. If you grew up IFB, these guys have some pretty funny and entertaining content about that life, but it’s just that, entertaining. This rating would be five stars by that standard. However, if you have been seriously hurt by legalism and are seeking the Lord’s direction for the next steps, you’d be better off listening to doctrinally sound preaching from a more established pastor (although these guys do strive to be Gospel-based) and letting the Spirit guide through that along with personal Scripture reading. This podcast points out the basic issues that you probably already know about:KJV-onlyism, music, dress, etc. Unfortunately, you’ll only hear attacks on those positions with no solutions or direction offered. Honestly though, if you’re just cutting the grass or on a long car trip and want to laugh about the peculiarities of being IFB, crank it up and “Leeeetttsss Gooo”.

NickCarnesThe Gospel Above AllLegalism has hurt many people and has imprisoned them to a life of pleasing religious men, often shackled by fear of punishment or consequence for failing to uphold the standards and preferences of those men. Through the RFP, Brian, JC, and Nathan are helping free people from the shackles of fear and the prison of legalistic demands by pointing them to Jesus and the gospel. The RFP offers a wide range of episodes for listeners. Some episodes tackle serious topics that need to be discussed for those coming out of legalism and for those simply wanting to glorify God as a follower of Jesus. Some episodes (and their intros) highlight many of the absurdities found within these legalistic movements. Here’s why you should expect some bad reviews on this podcast: #1 The controlling, toxic, and spiritually abusive leaders of these legalistic churches are fully aware that they are losing their grasp on the people being freed with the help of the RFP. #2 The hosts stand for something and they make it know through a statement of faith. This shouldn’t be controversial but it has been known to split some groups and people apart. Want to know how solid these guys are on the gospel? Search “For the Sake of the Gospel Conference” by the RFP on YouTube and discover for yourself.

Ex-Baptist but still ChristianNo different than the IFBThe jokes & the rhetoric is all that of the IFB, but with more carnality and without the modest outward adornment that a handful of IFB might still believe in.

Mom2four72Such a blessingIt has been a blessing to continue my journey out of legalism with the help of this podcast.

MICopperHuge HelpI grew up in the IFB movement, I find this podcast to be so helpful since leaving that movement. If you haven’t listened to testimonies from JC, Brian, and Nathan I suggest you start there, right at the beginning :) I think you will see their hearts for people and their heart for helping anyone transitioning out of IFB.

MrsCleburne1Thank you! It’s incredibly faith building to look back and see how God worked in y’all’s lives to start this podcast at the same time he was working to free thousands of people from legalism. You didn’t know that, and we didn’t expect to find an oasis in our spiritual desert, but as always, God is on the move! 🙌🏻 I have enjoyed getting to know the three of you and so many others in this supportive family, and I will be forever thankful that God provided a place of refuge when my soul needed it most. The RFP is a resource that is full of wisdom and grace, and is a safe place to challenge truth, grow in our relationship with Christ, and learn how to unashamedly live in the freedom that Christ paid for on the cross. Thank you for stepping out in faith to follow God’s leading in your hearts. I look forward to seeing and experiencing all that God will accomplish through this ministry! - Ali Brown

Good home aloneGreat Podcast!Love the Podcast! Thanks Nathan,Brian, and JC for letting us in on the conversation! Keep up the great work!

MissAnnieAlwaysThriving! These three men love Jesus, study his Word, and began this podcast to be a help to those who are steeped in legalism. As someone who was IFB, it helped me tremendously. I began listening in 2020 during quarantine. I began to notice that what they were discussing sounded just like my life! One episode in particular changed my life… Louis McNair. After her episode, I sought out counseling, and really began to heal from a very traumatic past. I have now left the IFB and I’m a member of a Christ-loving, thriving southern Baptist church! I am dating a wonderful Christian man, and I am fully free in Christ!♥️
-
22getoofed69Changed my lifeThis podcast helped solidify thoughts that had begun forming in my mind for some time, gave me words for things I couldn’t yet understand, and opened my eyes to truth. I have been set free. My life is forever changed and I am so grateful.

Bige6000LegalismHas been a great resource for me and helped me out of legalism

CoriLeAnnGospel-Centered and InspirationalI’ve been listening to the RFP since the beginning, and I can’t say enough good about the whole network, especially Nathan, Brian, and JC. They are balanced, not throwing the baby out with the bath water when it comes to those in the IFB. They recognize there are still people in the IFB that aren’t legalists or authoritarians trying to make a name for themselves. I think the best way I can put it is to (loosely) quote Nathan. We’re recording fundamentalism back from those that stole it. Family, WE are the fundamentalists. To God be the Glory for the RFP.

Sam 2023 4 ChristGreat PodcastThis podcast will show you how to live the Christian life without all the do’s and don’ts.

TJames270LegalismI’ve needed something like this podcast for years. Men, who are willing to call out and identify legalism in different churches and organizations. Not only has this podcast helped me grow as a believer but heal from years of confusion and hurt being raised in an independent fundamental baptist and IFB influence SBC church. I highly recommend this podcast for anyone who is searching for truth about the gospel!
-
Call me Mama TLove these dudesI appreciate these men being honest and never holding back their hearts, emotions, hurts and healing. Very encouraging. Just some men learning as they go. Just like the rest of us.
-
9436792My peopleThe RFP hosts are 3 guys who love the Lord, affirm the “fundamentals” of the faith, and have the joy of the Lord in their hearts. I have moved in IFB and SBC circles, but when I found the RFP, I found my people!
-
Zach_MorrisThis podcast helped meThese three guys and the conversations that they’ve had have truly helped me to think and read the Bible for myself. Like so many others, I simply would take what was being taught as 100% truth without asking questions. As JC says, “truth never fears a challenge,” when someone is speaking truth, they should not be afraid or respond poorly when questions are asked. This simple thought has allowed my foundation, and what I believe about Jesus to grow and strengthen. Thanks guys!
-
Catherine1310Awesome PodcastI tell everyone about this podcast. It’s truthful yet entertaining. These guys use truth from scripture to shed light on legalism in many denominations. You won’t regret downloading.
-
mcombs0914Love it!As someone in the Holiness church who is trying to find their way out of legalism, I appreciate this podcast so much! It is very relatable. So many similarities, even across denominational lines as you guys have mentioned so many times. All that said—thanks for being a light. Thanks for being an example of making it out of legalism and back to the Bible & being so transparent about it. Scripture over tradition! 10/10

BrittanyH818Glitch?I was listening to the Q&A part one with Phil Kidd and it stopped out of no where then it was completely deleted from the Podcast. I was going to listen to the Ken Schapp interview next and that one is completely gone so weird?.
-
HMHuntleySo amazingI’m so grateful for this podcast, I feel like legalism needs to be talked about more in church; so I’m glad that this podcast discusses the dangers of legalism+other topics. I just recently started listening to this podcast and I’ve learned so much. I would definitely recommend this for people who were raised in legalistic households+churches. Legalism is a false gospel.
-
mrsmelindawrightLack of integrityI worked with these guys for awhile. I loved the podcast. I listened while I worked and it cheered up my day. Since working with them, I have found them to be much like the group from which they claim to have left. I’m afraid much more recovering needs to happen, and I hope it does. The hosts have gaslit, gatekept, and used guile to save face. They are not who I thought they were. Search the names of the hosts in the Recovering Fundamemalist group to get our side(s) of the story. This isn’t just bitter heresay. There are safer places to recover from spiritual abuse.
-
Clive Staples Says:DisappointedWhen these guys first came on the podcast scene, they were awesome. Over time, they’ve become what they were against. ‘Truth never fears a challenge’, unless you question them. What was once a breath of fresh air, had become as stale and polluted as the group they have left behind.
-
coffeeposerGrateful for this resourceDidn’t grow up fundamentalist and managed to avoid getting far into it despite some opportunities and invitations and a period of considering KJV only. Have lost friends to these mindsets, though, and have struggled to understand what I might be missing about God or the gospel. But these guys and the many stories from those writing in reveal what I suspected, which is that fundamentalism tends to be missing something fundamental about the gospel. Still trying to understand.
-
dorian of house pavusnot worth my time“we’re not recovering in the sense of… we’re snowflakes, we need counseling. we’re not snowflakes, we’re not sucking our thumb…” Tried to give it a shot because I’ve been looking for resources for ex-fundamentalists/exvangelicals and couldn’t even listen to more than 10 minutes of the preview episode. It was immediately so dismissive of people who ARE in that kind of recovery, who were abused because of fundamentalism. If I wanted to listen to three grown men mock people who are hurt by the church, I could just have dinner with my brothers.
-
NC_ArmyFundamentalist in their own wayWhat’s the point of attacking older folks set in their way or different thought. Not saying the IFB have everything right, they don’t, but being just as nasty to go out and be so petty isn’t the right way either. You become the people you hate the most when you spend all your time attacking them and mocking them. I’ve dealt with both sides and can say there are time I like neither. Lucky for them I’m born again and believe Jesus to be my personal savior and not caught up in the war of ugliness, no one’s going to be a Christian with these type of hot takes on one another.

#HappyTeacherRFP Becoming the New IFB?What I had appreciated most about the RFP was how different they were from the IFB approach to things. It originally appeared that they allowed for diversity of thought and approach to spiritual matters/beliefs within their group of podcasts. I LOVED that! They appeared to allow the listeners to make their own decisions. Then I began to notice subtle changes to push their own personal spiritual preferences and exclude or downgrade alternate thoughts. Recently, though, it has become blatant. Blatant in those they have now included and those they have excluded. Now that they have accrued a strong following, they are undoubtedly circling the wagons and embracing the very core IFB mentalities that they once claimed to oppose…”our way or the highway” and “only we have the right answers”. Just as the original IFB founders started their sect with the right intent that went to their heads and corrupted an entire movement, so it appears the RFP is heading down the same path. Popularity, the growing need to please their mass following, the desire to convert listeners to their preferred spiritual views, claim to fame, pushback from spiritual leaders/influencers they want to appease, etc. is guiding them down an unfortunate road that leads to the very place they once claimed to detest in the IFB. RFP has gone full circle. So sad and extremely disappointing!
-
twoormohrMy husband and I are both fans!Since we both grew up IFB (he was a PK!) this podcast has given us lots to talk about and laugh over. It has made me become even more intent on questioning whether something is Biblical or just plan cultural. Thanks for what you do RFP!
-
Forsyth4EverAppreciate you guys!Appreciate this quality content! These guys care more about following the Bible than man’s standards. I grew up in church and didn’t really question the extra Biblical standards we held. Now that I’m an adult, I appreciate how they have made me uncomfortable about things I wouldn’t have questioned before. Even if I don’t agree with everything they say, it has given me an extra nudge to pay attention and study for myself.

HopeElizabeth87Not “whining”. This is a necessary work. The harm done by Fundamentalist legalism is real. The worship of men (MOG), the degradation of women, the brow beating of men, the exaltation of tradition and rules even when not supported by scripture, the grinding insistence of controlling and managing the finest details of people’s lives, the performance driven and transactional type of parenting that is taught … I could go on and on. These men are not “whining”. They’re doing an important work to help people deconstruct this harmful, corrosive handling of scripture without deconstructing faith and walking away from Jesus. I pray that God reaches out to every person who finds this podcasts and reveals life, forgiveness, healing, and the freedom in Christ available to them.

hobo1986Good/BadThis podcast has 1 adult out of the 3 and 2 teenagers who only know how to name call and treat others with disrespect. JC is a little kid out of the bunch. Mocking people on social media who disagree with you is ab IFB tactic and it’s alive and well with JC…
-
GraceMAveraThank youI didn’t grow up in IFB I grew up in a household that was unequaly yoked my mom is a strong follower of Christ and my dad is not as I was growing up I was taught the Bible but I always had a choice about what I believed and from a very early age I chose God. I started listening to this because my boyfriend is an IFB pastor’s kid he left the IFB movement a year before we met and he is very strong in his faith and liberties but sometimes there are still things he struggles with and I wanted to understand more about the world he grew up in so that I would be able to help him more. He loves this podcast as well and it has helped our relationship so thank you.
-
kpatricioRude and sarcasticI have watched them be rude and sarcastic on social media with anybody who does not agree with them. It seems self-defeating because so much of what they try to denounce is practices by them. Just with a different set of standards and thinking. Whether progressive or conservative, I pray we see a resurgence of humble and meek leadership in churches.

Joe1292838Spirit bears witness with spiritI didn’t come out of the IFB world. I grew up SBC and started pastoring an SBC church at 18 and was there for 9 years. Im 31 years old, I’m almost 3 years into my second pastoral ministry now and have been in pastoral ministry for 13 years, and preaching the gospel for 18 years. This podcast is in my top 3 favorites. It’s amazing to hear some common spirits. IFB isn’t the only legalistic denomination out there. Some SBC guys are about as bad. I’ve always felt like a black sheep because I’m pretty open with my anti legalistic stances toward the church and within scripture. I almost feel like I know you guys personally from how much of your podcast I’ve listened to. More importantly, we share the common Spirit of the authority of scripture and the freedom, liberty and grace that scripture offers. Keep doing what your doing and keep cranking the good stuff out. You’re touching people for Jesus with the real gospel and finally Laying to rest the legalistic and opinion based preaching of yesterday. Be blessed! -Corey

FroghaterMusicGreat job by 26 letters on music.

colbeeeeMehClassic example of the pendulum swinging too far. If you find yourself opposing your opponent on every single point, you might want to ask “am I seeking truth or fighting the enemy at the expense of the truth”?

Cwilham1New intro is fire!Love the new intro. Keep up the good work.

Past IndependentDisappointingIt is hard to listen to these cowards complain about things they grew up around in the church as youths. We all have be through that, we learned well-meaning adults made mistakes. The very denomination they’re complaining about these men are doing the same things.Paul Kidd preaches at his dad’s church and his dad at his church they’re both being paid by the money of the congregation. Brian Edwards and Craig Edwards do the same thing but then they get on the podcast to complain about others in the past that did that. I really don’t have a problem with preachers being paid to preach but it’s hypocritical for them to complain about it going on in the past and they’re all doing it in the present. Then their complaining about things that many independent fundamental Baptist moved on from in the 90s.There are only a few still preaching on these unbiblical topics, they are unimportant and their influences dwindling. Just seems like these blowhards want to hear themselves talk sell the podcast and their product. Total waste of time.
-
Mikey9T1Edifying and Funny to Boot! These guys are awesome to listen to. Their individual stories are inspiring, and the discussion is encouraging and challenging! Above all, their hearts are clearly burdened to help people get closer to Christ. Whether or not one agrees, they are 100 percent worth the listen!
