Bodice Tipplers

We're Courtney and we're Sara and we're Bodice Tipplers, the podcast where we read the romance novels we used to steal off our grandmothers' nightstands (and then we drink about it.) Join us each episode as we examine the good, the bad, and the throbbing of vintage romances.

    Excellent Podcast
As a former twelve year old reading flea market romance books this is hands down my favorite of the romance book podcast. I am tickled every time I see a familiar title in the feed and enjoy looking at my old favs with adult eyes.

Lurv Hallmark Movies?… git IN here!
Hey! I’m as serious… or possibly slightly more than the next girl. But I too read books that were exciting, confusing and embarrassing from my local library. Those romance novels & etc. were … they were … Anyway let’s face it - there is A LOT to unpack here. Why not listen to these knowledgeable women do it while talking fast, getting lost, and telling on each other and our selves? I come to this podcast to giggle, say, “Oh, yeh, you get it” and get over myself. You may end up talking louder and faster - but that will wear off. If you want it to.

    Wonderful Show
Courtney and Sara bring a terrific show all about the world of romance novels. While I must admit I'm not well versed in the topic they have great energy together and it's def a fun premise!

    A model book club
Funny and enthusiastic hosts with a fun idea: read trashy lit add alcohol and see what happens. Despite some questionable books, the podcast is great. If you’re a fan of book clubs subscribe now!

WARNING: you will snort out loud.
Okay, now that I’ve warned you, I have to say this is one of the funniest and weirdest podcasts I have had the joy of listening to. The cohosts are whip-smart, a little (a lot) tipsy, and have nary a filter between them. Escapism at its finest.

    A romp and a delight!
If you like old school romance novels and wine and southern accents, this is your jam! Even if you don’t like those things, you’ll LOL listening to this podcast. While the hosts’ commentary is informed and hilarious, it’s also contextualized and socially aware. If it dials up in intensity and volume as your listen (it will!), just know it’s because they’re tippling as they tear into these bodice rippers. These episodes combine knowledge about the subject with legitimate review of the books, as well as some highly entertaining commentary. Also, for you book lovers, you can READ ALONG! This is one of my favorite podcasts, and it should be yours too.

Smart and funny dives into books
Hilarious and smart discussions about the older romance books that we all somehow found and read, with wine and recurring ratings that always make me smile. Greatly appreciate them bringing forward authors I wasn’t as familiar with and helping me to find more diversity in my reading.

    Great podcast
I like the insight into the books you guys read and you guys are funny

Love in the Age of Corona
Sheer joy, especially on a dark and quar-y night. The hosts are somehow both radically different and perfectly suited to each other. Like sitting at the dinner table after everyone’s had too much, listening to two very clever, (lightly?) horny friends.

    Very bad
I am standing here beside myself, flabbergasted as I read other reviews. They are grabbing erratically without any effort at all to stick to a topic. The content yawns and meanders like a sailboat without a butter.

    Love it
Grew up on these trashy novels and they laugh at them while respecting the source. These stories are so implausible but dang are they not entertaining. I remember my mom giving me a copy of The Other Side of Midnight way back in the day. Wow!!!! Sex and more sex. No wonder everyone in the 70s were reading them.

    Crack me up
These ladies leave me in stitches. Thanks also for addressing some of the problematic stuff in old romance. Binged on a road trip and couldn’t stop laughing.

    So, So Good
It's like listening to two Julia Sugarbakers talk about vintage romance novels and if you don't think that's amazing I don't know how to explain to you why you're wrong.

You'll Fall In Love With This Podcast
I know nothing about romance novels but holy cow, Courtney and Sara make these stories come to life! Their reviews are not only well thought out, but highly entertaining to listen to. The hosts work great together as well! Listening to an episode is like having wine with an old friend. Join this virtual book club, grab a drink, and enjoy! -Elaine, Angus Eye Tea Podcast

    Being Surprised by Romance!
Honestly, I need to start reading romance novels. I'm one of those dudes that sits around saying "well, I'm not really into romance, but it's cool," but Sara and Courtney have got me thinking that I really ought to expand my horizons. The hosts bring a well-researched, honest perspective to the genre, tackling some of, shall we say, interesting versions of the bodice-ripper form. Readers of romance will get a lot out of this show. But even non-romance fans will find a lot of entertainment in this relatively new show. And if you're like me -- willing to have your brain challenged -- you might develop a newfound interest in the genre!

    Good Bodice Ripping Fun
I'm not really a fan of romance novels and definitely not a fan of the bodice-ripper variety, but I AM a fan of this podcast. The hosts are funny and obviously have a great deal of knowledge and interest in the genre. Even if you're not a fan of old trashy romance novels, you'll love this show.
