Rollin' Bones: The Osteopathic Podcast

34

For over a century the modern healthcare system has relied primarily on medications and surgery to treat most of the ailments patients face. While these advances have vastly increased our longevity and health, there are times when these treatments don’t work, or even worse, have unintended side effects or other consequences. Today, patients have become increasingly frustrated with these limitations and are looking for alternatives.Fortunately, osteopathic physicians have an alternative literally at their fingertips: Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT). Initially developed 150 years ago by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, OMT combines the art of hands-on care with the science of modern day medicine. Many patients in the US are not aware of the unique training of osteopathic physicians and OMT. However, those who have been treated with OMT are quick to point out that we are healthcare's best-kept secret!Rollin’ Bones: The Osteopathic Podcast seeks to pull back the curtain and introduce the general public to the power of osteopathic medicine and OMT. We discuss the conditions we treat, the philosophy behind our approach, and the science that supports it. Anyone interested in harnessing their body’s healing capacity will find this show enlightening and informative.

    Excellent, Entertaining, Educational
As someone familiar with osteopathic medicine and they history, I continued to learn things I’ve never known. Dr Aston and Paredes do their homework beforehand to bring one of the best presentations of information I hold dear. All this is done without pandering or patronizing to any group— just straight talk from two people who know their stuff. 10/10. Two thumbs up. A must listen.

    Super insightful!
Can’t wait for more episodes! Not in medicine, and I’ve learned a lot from just episodes 1&2. Love the philosophical & historical insight on how osteopathic medicine has been developed over the years.

    A Practical Perspective
Drs. Aston and Paredes give an interesting and thorough review of what osteopathy is, where it came from, and how it is applied to medicine in a practical way. Occasionally their language slips into the technical, but I think both providers and patients will find something useful in this. I look forward to seeing them continue in their coverage of other syndromes, topics, and utilities regrding osteopathic medicine. Line of the debut? "What prevents you from having pain in your back isn't finding the perfect stance, it is actually finding the way to move gracefully between positions, frequently." Thought of the debut? Osteopathic medicine is, in a way, medicine from the view of an engineer.

    One of a kind!
As a DO I am constantly finding myself explaining to many people what exactly we are about. This podcast is INCREDIBLE for both doctors and patients alike to learn all about the history of our profession and how we approach patient care differently than our counterparts. Dr. Aston and Dr. Paredes complement each other perfectly and their voices are a pleasure to listen to on my commutes to and from work. DOs have been around since 1874, but our title is still very misunderstood. Please keep spreading this podcast worldwide and help make Osteopathic Medicine a well-known field!
