9ioneerInsightfulDovid Katz is a brilliant historian. He preserves and communicates the Jewish experience of Christian Europe, the Muslim world, and America. Learn about your world from the perspective of a people who are immersed in, yet distinct from dominant cultures. (It would be great if someone provided translations of the most common Yiddish words Rabbi Katz uses: mamesh, goy, sefer, klal, yiddishkite, etc.)

Astanescu1Rambling old manJust a rambling lecture that paints historical events in an oversimplified and subjective light.

stiletto jonquilMost Engaging Jewish History Lecturer of Our TimeRabbi Katz is simply the best Jewish History speaker today. His breadth, depth, illustrative examples, and insights are unmatched. Can you really say you understand Jewish history if you haven’t heard Rabbi Katz? I had the good fortune of learning Jewish History under Rabbi Katz in high school, and was floored by our luck at having a world class lecturer coming every week to our class of 15 students to teach us about Tanach. I am very pleased to be able to continue hearing his message several times weekly, and I am pleased it is being shared with an even broader audience thanks to the Podcast medium.

-
GetkjUnbelievableI can sit for hours on end listening to R’ Katz’s Shiurim. They are informative and so interesting. R’ Katz has the ability to teach Jewish history from hundreds of years ago in a way that we in 2022 can understand it, and relate to it. The way he puts the whole story together is unreal.

BaruchBer1Pure GoldEvery episode is golden. Especially the weekly history profiles -- I've listened to some multiple times over. The parsha and haftora episodes are so-so, but no worries just skip them. My only, very minor, gripe is I wish Rabbi Katz would share his historical sources so the listener can go read more if they are interested.

-
Avi HoffmanTop level Jewish historyRabbi Dr. Katz has the unique ability to combine his deep scholarship, religious inspiration, and historical fascination with a style that pulls in the listener through his presentation. His humor, wit, and anecdotes are worth the price alone (in terms of time commitment - the podcasts are free) and his knowledge and understanding of the issues rivals that of any graduate-level Jewish studies course I’ve taken at Yeshiva University. This is a podcast that anyone at any level of education can access and enjoy. I recommend this podcast to people regularly, and can’t promote it highly enough here.

moshe mayerGreat podcastBut needs to improve his vocabulary. I suspect he’s dumbing down

Yck1000Most Enlightening Jewish ShiurRabbi Dr Katz is a real treasure. Even his שיחת חולין is worthy of study! Even if I may disagree with an approach of Rabbi Katz, he certainly gives you a way to see an issue from a different צד. It’s amazing that one person knows so much! Highly recommended!

Marty B 79Slight CorrectionA wonderful podcast. Not that Rabbi Katz needs approbation, he is a brilliant and engaging scholar. In today’s podcast he says in passing that “Lakewood Rabbonim were מתיר minyanim again”. I object to the implication that there was a “heter” to minyanim across the board. The rabbonim allowed “porch” minyanim under very specific circumstances (each person only on their own porch) supposedly with approval from the local government. You are free of course to judge the motivation or rectitude of that decision, but my understanding is that this was done to avoid a worse reality of misguided people completely flaunting the rules and making dangerous minyanim. Rabbi Katz probably did not intend to flippantly put down other Rabbonim without first-hand knowledge, or to spread misinformation, so I respectfully ask that the comment be qualified appropriately.
