There has never been a podcast I have ever had the desire to listen to twice, not even my all time favorite crime podcast. 😆 This podcast upped my garden game and now I am re listening to old episodes and taking notes. Things I learned about Bugs-they aren’t all bad- except for aphids. Those guys are terrible Water-plants need it, but I need to save it Compost My orchids don’t actually hate me, they just need cooler temps to bloom. A lot of succulents need seasons Being greener And sometimes things just don’t work out…like the time I got an 8 foot tomato plant that gave me 1 whole tomato…..oops. Now I know why that happened and it hasn’t happened since, in fact, it’s November and I’m finally seeing my little 3 foot tomato plant slowing down. I’m really sick of tomatoes right now but I’m thankful this podcast taught me what I was doing wrong so I didn’t cry about a giant plant giving me one single tomato….again. I also enjoy hearing updates about the cats and whatever other adventures. The banter on the Q&As is amusing. Also, Steven ray morris follows her on IG so, by the rules of social media, that means she is legit.

I love this show. The tip, the guests, the cats, all of it. It’s such a fun listen and the back and forth between Marlene and Joe is great. This has fast become one of my favorite gardening podcasts. Thanks for producing it.

I first found Marlene on Good Day weekend and I love this podcast. We live in Quincy but she still has lots of great advice and she’s getting me back into my houseplants. Thanks to Marlene I just ordered six miniature african violets and bought a lipstick plant. We have a big vegetable garden and love all of her todos. I also love the back and forth with Marlene and her husband, Joe. Great podcast. I’m sick of politics:)

I am so lucky to have three of the best garden podcasters right in my backyard with the same soil and climate. Flower Power in particular does a wonderful job of making gardening advice understandable to the lay person. Led by a senior member of the UC Davis horticultural staff and her handyman husband, the show makes you laugh while guiding your through the seasonal changes. Thank you! David in Antioch

Marlene is an expert gardener and horticulturalist, with a great sense of humor. Her podcast is extremely informative both for novice and advanced growers. You always learn something new in each episode.

I learned to garden by listening to podcasts while watching my kids play in the yard in zone 9b. This podcast is my favorite because it’s informative and the hosts are funny (especially your email address 🤣). And no ads!!!! Thank you for your guidance and entertainment and your variety of topics. I want to learn it all! Ps your intro is the best I’ve heard hands down. I often tell my husband, “I want you to know that everything was grown in my garden.” ❤️❤️❤️ also I find your podcast balancing and restorative. It feels like home, especially in these times. So full of random information on anything pertaining to plants, vegetable, gardening, peats. I enjoy Joe also, how you bounce back n forth. He seems to be an instigator lol. I look forward to Sundays on Goodday 13. I am more of a visual learner so it sure helps when there is someone who sends in a photo of issue. My summer and winter gardens are doing so much better by listening to your advice. Things i never would if thought of. Keep up the great work.

I was looking for a gardening podcast that was educational, fun, and in a similar gardening zone (I’m 8b)- this is it! Been listening to it every night since discovered. Great host, great material, great presentation! Thank you for being here, Marlene!

Just some feedback about a recent episode Example: garden saving tips... One of the tips was avoid expensive pesticides. The explanation on how to avoid using pesticides was “I love using rubbing alcohol on certain things” and “I prefer to spray water” but then zero explanation was given on when it’s appropriate to use either method or why it works. This was a common theme throughout the episode, I left the podcast realizing I had learned next to nothing but more information would be available on a YouTube channel somewhere.

Entertaining, educational and best of all this podcast is a good guide that helps me stay on track. Thank you!!

The hosts are incredibly knowledgeable but talk in a way that’s hilariously entertaining so it’s not purely just a nerdy dump of info. You will thoroughly enjoy this, whether you’re a plant nerd or just have a new found curiosity about the plant world!

So grateful to my friend for recommending this podcast. I love hearing all the wild stories, interesting interviews, and applicable tips. I am seriously impressed with Marlene’s ability to describe exactly what is going on with a plant in a way I can visualize so that everyday gardeners can really tend to their specific plants’ needs. Joe’s clarifying questions help my partner know what the heck I’m talking about, too! Would love to hear more about houseplants in the future and the day to day duties of running the UC Davis Conservatory! Keep up the great work, folks. I always look forward to your new episodes!

I started with the 2 episode house plant cast. The first 10ish minutes was the host and guest discussing popular houseplants in a pretty condescending manner. They actually discussed being plant snobs, then kept on. I wanted to like this as I think there is good information, so I tried to keep an open mind and listened to the second episode. More of the same.

This podcast is one of my favorites. Marlene really makes the world of botany so accessible. My favorite episode was about terrariums - she had someone on the podcast who really helped me set up a tropical coffee table terrarium.

I look forward to this podcast each week. It’s a great combination of local garden, plant knowledge and some occasional husband/wife banter. Every week I learn useful gardening information that I can take back to my own garden. I love the episodes that focus on particular plant groups. The latest episode on roses was so fun to listen too. Marlene continues to prove she has a broad knowledge on so many gardening topics. Don’t miss the question and answer episodes where husband Joe keeps the answers grounded so the “average Joe” understands the answers which then leads to a more through explanation. Thanks for the info, entertainment, and advice every week Marlene and Joe.

Marlene really knows her stuff! Her immense passion for plants and gardening really shows as she interviews many different people in the plant world. Highly recommend

Too much worthless filler chat, too little prep between hosts, too much “I think I’m clever and funny” lead up to the actual content. The Pollinator episode was wildly underwhelming... content was weak and sounded googled.

Very good segment. I learned so so much. Not just about the pollinators, but also the plants. Zucchini you are an interesting plant. Vanilla, I want to grow (but can't live in the wrong place geographically). I plan on listening to all of them. The other person on the podcast was interesting. Smarter than the average person but asked questions we would all be interested in. Good program

There is so much to learn from Marlene and her guests, it has made doing research for my garden so much fun! Every time someone comes to me for advice I will forward them a link and make sure they know “I got it from the plant lady”.

Great show with a lot of personality. The banter and conversation between the hosts is appreciated and makes the episodes much more lively

I want to like this podcast but I have had to forward through a lot of unnecessary banter. Less chit chat about unrelated information would make this so much better.

This is my absolute FAVORITE podcast! If I were a Drosera multifida f. extrema, I would give this podcast 30 thumbs up!!
