MERLIN NEEDS TO STOP INTERRUPTING ALEX
Merlin Mann, STOP INTERRUPTING ALEX while they’re trying to make a point. If you can’t wait for them to finish their point make notes of your response and share them after they finish if you can’t wait.

I liked the mission impossible bit but oof this is hard to listen to

I demand a refund (for this thing I didn't pay for)!
This show used to be the brightest part of my week. Then the funny one got cancelled & booted from the show and for some reason (maybe the patreon cashflow) they decided to just keep on trucking every week as if nothing happened. People gotta eat I guess. Everyone has their reasons. I like Merlin and Alex as people and really want to like the show but there is just nothing here anymore. They had a good run, but it's over. That long tail of five star reviews may keep bringing people in, but every time I try to listen again it just makes me sad. Imagine your favorite TV comedy but suddenly one season the main character dies, they fire the writers and remove the laugh track, and now the tragic brokenness of the actors - which used to somehow accent the comedy - is all that is left, as they dance around on an empty set with no real destination.

    Good show
I really like hearing Merlin and Alex talk about whatever each week with a thin veneer of an outline/structure.

Catch phrase: “Is this the show?”
Sadly, yes. I had unsubscribed. I came back to see if this show had gotten better because it seemed impossible that it wouldn’t. Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as impossible.

Good way to start your weekend.
This is a funny, if sometimes offbeat, show. I usually save this show for Friday afternoon as the perfect beginning to my weekend.

    This show cannot go on
Seriously going to drop abuser and racist Max Temkin from the show, but just keep going? Maybe take some time off to think about how you’ve - for years - normalized and vouched for an abusive racist. Cancel this show.

Show pretended that one of their hosts wan’t terrible for years
I’m not sure how anyone can listen to this, or any other Merlin Mann show. People have been saying Max is terrible for years, but Merlin and Alex just pretended that none of this existed then finally give a weak sauce “he’s one of my best friends” quasi-apology when outcry was too great to ignore (and was likely impacting their bottom line). It’s time for terrible people to be held accountable, and Merlin has shown that he has no stomach for keeping terrible people accountable. A complete waste of a platform from someone who pretends to be a decent person.

The Triumvirate you need in your life
These guys are smart and funny. The show is the definition of frenetic. The people and points of view are fun. Bring back Max. He can figure it out.

    Screem Laughing
Just turn your head when you laugh! It's called mic technique and all of your hero’s have it. Or, keep piercing ear drums out of childish abstinence. Up to you. It's your show.

    Great premise, great fun
I've heard every episode since this debuted beause I loved the concept, and at first the hosts made themselves somewhat uncomfortable as they forced themselves to do increasingly weirder things each week. The should could have gone off the rails and veered into stunts, but they've since hit a stride doing fun ideas for projects and reporting back. It's quick and amusing, with plenty to entertain you. If you like the regular episodes, be sure to jump on the patreon, which adds another ~30min episode each week as you get to hear the behind the scenes banter of picking the next week's challenge. A great fun podcast that if you're not listening to, you're robbing yourself of a good time each week.

    Nothing comes close
No podcast can compare to Do By Friday. It’s the fastest, smartest, weirdest thing on the internet in 2019. Thank you Alex, Max and Merlin for your service.

    Cringing and laughing simultaneously
It’s enjoyable to watch “somebody be so committed to something that foolish” (Merlin Mann in “The Screaming Spectrum” episode). What a great summary of this podcast. As a person who did not fall for the Russian collision hoax, sold to Max by Rachel Maddow and her cats, I SHOULD be annoyed by Max’s persistent tin foil hat antics. But I absolutely love this show, especially when Max gets worked up about whatever most recent farcical story is being sold to him. It’s downright fun to watch the incredible commitment to his preconceived notions, however wrong they may be.

This is my weekly dose of fun. I never know which direction it will go in but it's always a blast.

Like someone mentioned before (Merlin?), it's just enjoyable to hear these three friends talk about whatever.

    Good content, super annoying host
I gave my first listen today to the fantastic beasts episode. I actually liked a lot of the content but the girl is so annoying. She spend the whole episode laughing hysterically. Is she high as a kite? She's the reason I probably won't download another episode.
  • BofMouais
Maybe the earlier content is good?
Subscribed to this after a couple of recommendations and seeing some positive reviews. I tried 3 different episodes but I never made it more than 10 minutes in because its just people laughing at their own jokes. To my knowledge, there is no actual content, unless it comes later. If it exists, it can’t be good enough to sit through the beginning.

    Politics are bad
While I align with the hosts political views, it gets old. Quick. Also there is no format to the show at all and Alex’s laugh is not made for podcasts.

What your kids talk about in the basement
This is a podcast with 2 twelve year old boys and a 10 year old girl talking about various dumb subjects in their basement.
  • Tipsy McStumbles
    It's Become Unlistenable
Between Max's gross eating while speaking and Merlin's and Max's pathological compulsion to constantly interrupt, the show has become unlistenable. I gave it one lase shot with the episode "The Bathroom Boys," but I couldn't finish is due to Max and Merlin constantly interrupting the guest.

    I listen 3 times a week
Ever since Seinfeld went off the air, I've been searching for something to replace it. This isn't that, no, it's much better. I listen to every episode three times and recommend you do too. Every time I hear Max's voice I feel instantly comforted. PS: I especially like when Alex Cox eats RX Bars on the air because that's my kink (don't shame me).

    Is a great podcast
I used to not like this podcast because I couldn't get the sound to work on my iPod, but now I can hear it and it's great. If you're a fan of comedy in audio form then I highly recommend this PodCast. Alex, Merlin, and Max are truly # Making Audio Great Again hashtag.

    Top 4
One of my top 4 fav shows. The writing is tight, timing impeccable, and you can tell just how many hours a week the hosts spend preparing to craft this finely running machine. I still laugh at the coffee challenge nearly every day. Merlin just mentioned Fountains of Wayne. It doesn't get much better. Alex is totally awesome. The guy that sells a card game at Target is here too. Go to the URL. Give them your ?$&! money.

    Really good!
This is easily the best McElroy tribute podcast around!

    Super Funny, Super Liberal
Even as a person who leans more conservative, I enjoy listening to this funny, funny podcast. Love Merlin’s quick wit, Max’s professionalism and respect for the audience, and Alex.

Smart, sweet people doing funny things
I liked Merlin from back in the productivity days; Alex is a great foil to him in a way that few of his other podcast cohosts are; and Max is both funny and annoying in all the right ways. If you like any of the things these people do, you will likely like this. If you like good things, you might should listen to this.

    Stunning.
This is the best podcast on earth. After 5 minutes on Drafts 5, this is all I could come up with. Nothing I had to say was funny enough to make it justice. Thank you for your service.

    Privacy is an issue
I am very concerned about the privacy of the hosts. But otherwise, this is my favorite hour of audio programing every week. Listen. To. It.

    “My father...”
I’ve been a fan of Merlin for a long time but never more so than now with Max and Alex. The silliness is off the rails and the bits are instant classics. But what makes this show so great is how much fun they’re having. It’s just fun. So go listen.

    Exceptionally Funny
Funny and irreverent. Nothing is off limits for conversation and the laughs just keep on coming for the duration of this podcast. Alex, Merlin, and Mac have great chemistry!
  • Trilock
    Quiet good show
This show is really quiet, I wish they would fix this so it wouldn’t be so quiet because it is really slightly more quiet than it should be, seriously why so quiet.. one of the few things that still makes me laugh regularly, just wish it were slightly louder to be more inline with all the other audio ever.
  • Express\\4896489611
    Turns out:
If Alex wasn’t on this podcast it’d be trash. I’ve never laughed out loud alone more listening to any other piece of media.
  • docpete
    Unreal
It's unreal to me how three people can be so brash, so weirdly foul, and yet so damned affable at the same time. No matter what the topic each week, I know exactly what I'm going to get: three people trying to make themselves — and the world — slightly better, and doing it in the most authentic way possible. I wouldn't have my 10-year-old listen... but going on 11? Maybe...

    Completly Inappropriate
Chidlish. Foul language. Disjointed. Can't stick to a single subject. Sometimes is seems like the challeneges aren't even important to these people! And if that's not enough reason to listen, Alex has a great laugh.
  • PodBinge
    New Listener, New Convert
I'm sure I'd be more pithy if I'd just listened, but this one is a new-found podcast for me and a keeper. The challenges are an excuse to get the three of them together and chat. Always smart, always thoughtful, always funny, and like me, nearly painfully self-aware. My only beef is that as a new listener I don't get the inside jokes occassionally.
  • Silverhammer
Not what it claims to be
Yet another Merlin & Friends podcast that is not what it claims to be. This one claims to be about unusual weekly challenges and what we might learn from them about modern life. Nope. It's about Merlin Mann slumming with Millennials, because his other podcasts with with John Siracusa and John Roderick make him feel old, and it's about Max Temkin grinding through his perpetual anti-Trump hysteria. The weekly challenge is almost literally an afterthought. (And they want five bucks per month via Patreon for this?) It's a guilty pleasure at best and aggravating nonsense at worst, and you will eventually tire of it — much like Max's game, Cards Against Humanity.
