The BEMA podcast never fails to make me think. It has reshaped my view of the Old Testament and how I approach it. I’ve just completed Season 1 and I’m excited to see what’s next.

I was raised in church. Became a pastor’s wife as a young adult. We served as elders after we left formal ministry. 2020 wrecked us. Watched our church community respond to COVID restrictions and murder of George Floyd in ways that made no sense. I grew up in Europe with many Jewish friends. Knew there were different perspectives from what I was seeing. So great to find you here. I’m learning so much!

I have been a disciple of Jesus for 30 years and devoted to learn his teachings. BEMA had opened a new window for me to deep dive the scriptures! It is amazing how these two detangle the stories and connect them all together. God bless!!!!!

I discovered this podcast a month ago and am 35 episodes in. I am learning and growing rapidly in my faith and feeling excited about reading my Bible for the first time. I have been reading my Bible regularly for years and have been raised in the church but have not heard many of these familiar passages and stories explained this way. This study/podcast has revealed so many details that I never would have discovered on my own or in my personal studies. I thank Marty and Brent for this podcast because it truly has changed my life. The Bible is life giving and you have helped unlock that.

So, I loved Marty when he preached at Long Hollow so I listened to the podcast. I learned a lot but I have to admit I was disappointed with some of the comments that Marty said in reference to some of the people in the Bible questioning who God chose as his people like Jacob/Israel. Then I got to season 2 and when he started on Judges and started saying some of these things probably didn’t happen, I got frustrated because the Bible is the inherent word of God and he’s not going to put things in the Bible that are not true. Yes man wrote it, but it was inspired by the Holy Spirit. I learned a lot about the Jewish ways and I value what I learned in the beginning of season 1, the second half really slowed down. But I can’t bring myself to listen anymore and hear someone talk so negatively about the word of God. I’m just sad about this. I had so much hope. Maybe someday I’ll come back and give it another shot but I doubt it. Listen with a grain of salt on some of the stuff said if you’re going to listen when he talks about these types of things. I couldn’t bring myself to listen to him get to the prophets and see what he had to say about Gods word on those. I don’t think his view of the Bible is helpful so far. Sorry. Just being honest and sharing my opinion but I’m really bummed.

The Bema podcast is one of the singular best resources for folks who want to clarify, reinvigorate, or deepen their understanding of the Bible. Both in what it says and what it means as well as how it relates to a life that reflects the way of Jesus. As a 4-year listener, I am encouraged by the growth of the podcast, the expanded teaching team, and the continual work to handle the Text well. I can’t recommend this enough, so good!

Never have I ever experienced a podcast that radically changed my life like this one. I’ll never read the Bible the same or even think the same because my eyes have been opened to the beauty of ancient thought and tradition that predates the scholarship that I held on to so tightly that had no real foundation. Thank you all for giving us such an amazing tool to grow in the Lord.

I’m apart of a small Bible study group, we are listening to this podcast and discussing the episodes. We are all enjoying it. Love learning things from the eastern point of view.

It really helped put into perspective things in the text that I have struggled with and gave me some comfort knowing that it’s okay to ask questions and it’s also okay to think that some of what you may have been taught growing up isn’t necessarily wrong but rather it’s just been misapplied due to wrong context I recommend this show to just about everyone I know that listens to a podcast

I was in love with the first season. I am about to start the second. The thought about the story from an eastern perspective is so eye opening and it goes into so much depth and it’s amazing. 10/10 recommend

So much to explore in the Bible as we have it today…BEMA is a podcast of exploration into the richness of the written word- praise God for the WORD and how we keep learning about the Messiah / even in Genesis 1. Amazing - thankful for this journey through scripture!

I love this podcast, it has given me a better lens to view the Bible through. However in episode 166 when talking atonement, they talk about the scapegoat for Yom Kippur. If you study the temple you learn that this goat was not a scapegoat, that’s a mistranslation. This goat is seen to be Azazel and is taken by the priest and booted off a cliff over sharp rocks. It’s actually a picture of Hasatan, not a scapegoat. Also Marty said the alter of incense is in Kodesh Hakodeshim (The Holy oh Holies). The alter of incense is in Hakodesh (The Holy place), outside the Kodesh Hakodeshim, the same room as the menorah and show bread.

Totally flipped my view of the Bible on its head! Really weeded out the misconceptions that are taught in a lot of the western church.

This podcasts is so incredible. Bring a deeper understand on the Character and heart of God throughout the entirety of scripture. It stirred up a new hunger for the word of God in my heart and has helped me to gain clarity on many Old Testament passages that just seemed confusing. Thank you for the investment of time and consistency you poured into these episodes.

I felt stale in my journey until a friend recommended this podcast and I've been on a deeper, life-changing dive back into the word ever since. I so appreciate this show!!

I would highly recommend listening to this podcast!! Marty Solomon, who is the host, does a really great job of teaching the Bible from an eastern perspective, which is the where it was written. Knowing the culture behind the Biblical narrative is so important in truly understanding who God is and what He is trying to teach us. Marty and his co-host Brent Billings give such good insights in that regard. Since listening to this podcast, my faith has deepened, my relationship with God and knowledge of who He is has grown tremendously, and I truly feel as though I have a better understanding of the Bible. HIGHLY RECCOMEND :)

I have been a bible reader for many years but never fully grasped how beautiful it is until I started listening to this podcast. I've been through the first five seasons twice now and have learned more from their podcasts that I ever did in my entire Catholic / Christian upbringing. Please keep making these podcasts!

Bema is a serious Bible study! Marty Solomon has a firm grasp on the Jewishness of the scriptures. He has is educated. He is pastoral. He is a teacher. I appreciate his way of making all of the Bible accessible.

I grew up in the church, so I thought I had a good background in Bible knowledge, but this podcast totally changed the depth of that knowledge. There was so much I had to learn! This podcast is great for those new to the Bible as well as those who have studied it for years. My perspective has changed and I feel like I finally understand the historical context on a deeper level. I can’t recommend this podcast enough.

The most important resource in my faith outside of my Bible has been this podcast. Actually, I wouldn’t even call this a podcast, these episodes are lessons and teachings, not just unstructured conversations.

Season one and two have really help me develop a clearer understanding of the biblical narrative and how God is working in His world and our lives.

I’ve been a BEMA listener for around 4 years, and it has radically changed my life. So many parts of scripture that never really made sense before, have become so much more clear. I can’t recommend this podcast enough!

This podcast is one of my favorites! I have learned all sorts of things about God and the history/culture of the stories in the Bible through this podcast. Sure, there are some things that I don’t think I can quite get behind theologically, but wow, I have learned a lot through it! You should for sure give this a listen, especially my personal favorite episode, “Under the Chuppah.”

This podcast, in session 1 alone, has helped me to deconstruct my production minded empire lifestyle and reconstruct my thoughts to align with Elohim who says I am a good creation, not because of what I can produce, but because He created me! I am partnering with Him to be a rotem bush to others, a stream in their desert! It’s unlocking a loving, caring father that I never knew before. This will change my family for generations and I’m so grateful!

Thankful this show exists and frequently recommend it to others. My only critique is that the music is a bit dramatic and cheesy…but that is just personal opinion. Keep it up!

I have read all of Genesis so many times. Yet, I felt like I was reading it for the first time in listening to Marty & Brent explaining it from the Ancient Hebrew perspective. I can’t recommend it enough!

I have been listening to this podcast for years and am still amazed at all I learn in every episode. Anytime I get into a conversation about faith, I recommend BEMA to them. It has changed my walk with God, deepening it and sweetening it in so many ways. If you want to ponder challenging questions that help you reshape some of the beliefs you have had since you were little in church, helping make your faith more solid and still simultaneously more expansive..listen to this!!
