Philosophy #167

Chitheads is a smorgasbord of contemplative education. Each episode is like a mini masterclass, exploring the diverse landscapes of spiritual practice, philosophy, and the transformative power of embodied knowledge. Each episode is crafted with the curious and open heart in mind, aiming to illuminate the path of self-inquiry and empowerment for yoga teachers, scholar-practitioners, meditators and other spiritual seekers and contemplative folks from around the world. From the profound teachings of Yoga and Buddhism to the sometimes complex theories of contemplative psychology and the vibrant tapestry of indigenous wisdom, our guests share insights that awaken, challenge, and inspire. With every episode, we dive into discussions that matter, exploring questions that guide us closer to our true selves and to a deeper understanding of the world around us. Our mission is to create a space where wisdom (and not fame, power, or money) is the center of gravity and what we are most concerned about cultivating in this lifetime.  Join us on Chitheads as we explore the liminal spaces of consciousness, embrace the complexities of the human experience without dogma or self-righteousness, and discover the beauty again and again of the interconnectedness of all things. Subscribe to Chitheads on YouTube and your favorite podcast platform, and please consider leaving us a positive review on one iTunes, or your favorite podcast player. Come dive into these in-depth conversations that illuminate our path of contemplative discovery. If you’ve felt like you’re the only one full of chit – full of consciousness or awareness ˀ– welcome home. This community of listeners, seekers, and scholar-practitioners is for you.

    Ad integration not skilled
Love the content but the ad are thrown in there left and right with no cut. It feels disrespectful to the speakers. It’s so abrupt.

Good content / Terrible audio quality
YMMV, but I really wish they would invest in better sound production. I often need to turn up my car stereo to full blast to try to make out what the host or guest is saying. Most times, I find it best to listen with headphones / earbuds in a quiet environment. So good luck listening on your commute. Content-wise, it’s often deep nerdy yoga and philosophy (which is great!) so do appreciate their niche and POV.

Fills my need for deep philosophy
It’s often dense and academic, and i love it for that. They bring ancient and in depth yogic philosophy into the modern world and it’s so interesting and wonderfully challenging. I need the academic info and experienced and researched perspectives.

Colonizers doing what they do best
This white man is literally profiting off of other peoples culture with no shame. His personal white privileged male agenda is cleverly disguised in this podcast as he profits off other cultures but the truth is he’s a colonizer doing what white men have always done. He steals culture and makes his own identity but the reality is he’s only in it for himself. Please stop giving him attention he’s just another middle class white man trying to make the voices of POC into fame. And on a personal note I’ve had the misfortune of spending time with Jacob only to learn he’s a blue lives matter supporter and conservative. He is nothing like how he presents himself on this podcast and I’m availed I listened to him for so long without doing my research. Sir you should be ashamed of yourself. Sit down and get out of the way.

    Grateful
Thank you so much for creating this podcast, which I only recently stumbled upon. In listening to your various interviews one feels the sincere level of commitment and passion Jacob Kyle has for the subjects that are brought forth, which makes it that much more compelling to the listener than the average interview. The extremely diverse and pertinent subjects that are presented are wonderfully rich and layered and so many of the people interviewed are putting such great work out there; I thank you all for such uplifting, informative and inspiring work you are doing. 🙏🏾

    Meaningful, Important
Incredible podcast...sharing varied & rich perspective, knowledge, and study. So rare that true informed study/knowledge gets conveyed - dharma - vs opinion alone. It's important.

    A Must Listen!
I am so impressed with the podcasts from Chitheads! Each scholar, philosopher, and practitioner is highly educated and presents a new understating of yoga theory, yoga history, yoga philosophy, and other related areas of study. Jacob is inquisitive with his questions for the guests, and produces a witty and engaging session every time! Some of the material is definitely advanced, but the information is relayed to the audience in a palatable manner that keeps me wanting more! I highly recommend listening!

So much value in every episode
I take so much away from each conversation that I hear Jacob Kyle have with his impressive array of guests. Many new avenues of personal, internal exploration have been made known to me through this podcast. Many thanks, Jacob!

    So Deep
So refreshing to listen to these, there is so much fluff out there when it comes to yoga. This is the real deal.

    Best Yoga Philosophy Talks
I have learned more about yoga philosophy in the past 6 months listening to this podcast than I have trying to gleen what I could from random sources over the past 20 years. The interviews really help to make sense of a vast array of perspectives and opinions one will find when trying to learn on their own. Look forward to each and every episode!
  • ... It quits!

    Enjoyed Halpern interview immensely
It was refreshing hearing Gabriel Halpern’s perspective on the ritual elder. As an Iyengar practitioner, I enjoyed hearing how Halpern learned from Iyengar personally, then transcended his practice based on the seeds of his learning. In an age where we have people like Matthew Remski “sissifying” yoga where any correction is viewed as some type of abuse, Halpern gives the perspective of being “tested” by the master to transform yoga class adversity to handling daily life adversity. Deep wisdom.

    Intelligent Conversation about Yoga Philosophy
Jacob Kyle is an engaging and intelligent interviewer. In this podcast he discusses yoga philosophy some of the leading thinkers from both the academic and applied worlds of yoga. Yoga may be yuj, yoking, intimacy (to quote some of his interviewees), and yoga is also change and transformation through learning. This podcast is a great supplemental learning tool for yogis. Thanks so much Jacob!
  • MarisaRGordon

    Important and Timely Podcast
As the yoga world continues to mature in the west, it’s important for me to learn as much as I can from scholars and thoughtful, experienced yoga practitioners and teachers. Every yoga teacher should listen to this podcast. Unlike most yogic enterprises today, nothing is being sold. Instead, it feels like an honest and in-depth exchange of information with a wise host at the helm. I often use excerpts from this podcast to expose my 200 Hour YTT trainees to intelligent and contemporary yoga dialogue.

Bumped into this site and glad I did
As the prior reviewer has mentioned, this is a great place to listen to modern, intellectual discourse on yogic philosophy, culture, practice and history.
  • Worthingal
