But why not all of it!!
Sure, I love this show, even in bits and pieces, as that is the only way it is presented now. But why not the option to just download entire shows, because these shows are fabulous, what with the music, and the politics, and the smartipantsiness and the this and the that. Come on PRI - we want the whole apple cart!

A Bloody shame they canceled this show!!! Five stars while it was still being made.
PRI and NPR need to think that if they only cater to boomers and don't offer anything that is culturally simpatico to people under 40 that they will slip into irrelevance just like major network news has done. There are rumors that there might be some way to resuscitate this program, I am jonesing for my "Bathed in Glory" fix.

    Faithful Everyday
i listen to faith faithfully everyday and hope to someday be interviewed by her. (i just have to think of something big to do.) fun, clever and a great conversationalist, silly salie wows the masses. but my question is: where has she gone as of may 2008?! faith, where are you?! and why have you been so silent in your absence?!

    Farewell, Fair Game
I already miss this show's mix of great new bands, interesting interviews, and admittedly hit or miss comedy segments.

I fell in love with Fair Game - and now they're leaving me!
I am crushed! Faith and the Fair Game team have been a daily dose of news and entertainment for the last several months, and I just learned today that the show has ended! It was too short-lived, and I really feel like it had recently reached a groove - segments that had worked became regular installments, but Faith and the rest were always tinkering with new things. The "news team" and Daily Show-esque reporting were consistently witty and well-edited. Faith has grace, humor, intelligence, and a style of pointed questioning that often surprised guests - always a treat for the listeners. Some of my favorite musical groups I heard first on Fair Game - St. Vincent, the Mountain Goats, Goldfrapp. And without being too subversive or exclusively liberal, the team always managed to point out the ludicrous sayings and doings of politicians. Faith, I am a straight woman who would in an instant ask you on a date. I wish you and your team all the best in future ventures, but you will be sorely missed on my daily morning walks in the Pioneer Valley, Massachusetts. Sincerely, Alanna M Lynch

    I like Fair Game b/c:
    1. The host uses "ya'll"--the desperately needed second-person plural. 2. While satirizing the notion of a liberal-biased media they manage to substantiate that claim within its very dismissal. Very meta comedy chops. 3. The host's warm, honeyed voice. 4. The Onion and The Daily Show can produce only so much material. 5. I like to hear interviewees, perhaps dulled by many interviews, perk up at the personability and humorous sincerity of the host. I am married, sorry Faith.

    Funny and smart
I love this podcast. Faith is funny and also a pretty good interviewer. Her responses are very natural - gasps, laughs, etc, so the show seems fresh and not over-scripted. The contributors are fun as well.

    Consistantly informative and entertaining
I appreciate the diversity of interview subjects. The humour can be fab or flop, depending on the night. But the presenter, Faith Salie, is bubbly and yet intelligent enough to ask interesting questions. Always interesting to hear the musical guests. I listen every day. I especially enjoy the Bathed in Glory segment which is a sarcastic salute to some sort of idiocy.

    Funny and smart
This show is hilarious and informative. My local station does not broadcast this so I'm glad the podcast is available.

    My latest celebrity crush . . .
. . . is Faith Sailie. She's very funny and very smart (I say that based on her interviews; watch out Terry Gross!) This is a terrific show! The comedy is usually gold, and at it's worst, HUGELY amusing. My only real complaint is that there's not enough of it. I'm not a fan of their habit of sticking in reruns of interviews. I'd rather they have new stuff all the time.

Wow- Not Funny- Not Clever- Not Original
My friends and I are funnier and more insightful than this. Just don't bother.

    A Really Great Podcast!!
I first wasn't sure about this podcast, especially the music aspect of it. But after a few shows, I got used to it, and really quit enjoyed the music. The hilarity is 'rolling on the floor laughing'. It's more of the kind of funny you smirk at. Faith Salie is a great host and really keeps you interest. Overall, This is a really great podcast!

Why all the hate for this show?
I'm reading these reviews and thinking "why are people being so vindictive?" This show is fairly new and getting off the ground, so it hasn't perfected it's own formula. Nevertheless, it's good at this point and I think it will only get better. And sure, the comedy doesn't always work, but couldn't you say that for The Daily Show or The Colbert Report? (Hell, the comedy rarely ever works on Prairie Home Companion.) So let up, people. At least Fair Game is trying something new. Also, I think Faith Salie is an upcoming public radio star. She's got the voice, she's got the interviewing chops, and she can pull off a one-liner from time to time. Don't believe the haters, give this podcast a try and make-up your own minds.
  • mikenice
    hipsters need a voice, too
Clearly, it's not for everyone. It may be a generational thing. If you hate snarky thirty-somethings hipster humor and indie music, there is nothing for you here. I think they put on a great show and the music segments are always interesting. Sooooo....it's probably just you.

    Clever by half
I really have tried to warm up to this. It's simply not good and at times incomprehensible. Humor? I don't think so. If you're looking for clever satire, try The Onion or Rush Limbaugh parodies..... this just doesn't do it for me. Perhaps it works for a younger demographic (20's)... that is, the young & dumb crowd. I don't mean offense by that. We all go through that phase. Other reviewers' 4 and 5 star ratings are proof that Fair Game floats some people's boats. I'd rather go to sleep listening to the BBC.
  • russellfrost
    Inconsistent at best
A fairly tedious show that's a roller coaster ride between good and a lot of below average material. There are so many of great things out there and so many other fantastic shows we still can't get on podcast, it amazes something like this sneaks through. Nice try but it doesn't work.

Skip Through the Unfunny Comedy Bits for The Interesting Guests
I've been subscribing for a couple of months now, and it's pretty obvious that the "comedy" bits are largely painfully lame/bad. I would have stopped subscribing long ago, but some of the guests are interesting. My advice: check out episodes where the guest sounds promising and skip over the "comedy."

Hippest thing on NPR. If you like Wait, Wait don't tell me...
Funny, Educational, Hip. Politics, Humor and great musical guests. Gets me through my daily commute with a smile on my face and better informed. #2 on my pod list behind Wait, Wait don't tell me.

Continues to grow -- a great listen
I have been listening to Fair Game for a number of months now. The show is really coming into its own but appears to continue to push itself (very important - please don't get self satisfied!). Based on the segments and mix, it sounds like the program is striving to be a contemporary and playful mix of the Daily Show meets SNL meets Terry Gross -- a collective tall order. The interviews are its strongest suit. Faith has a way of getting people to reveal insights and not say what they say everywhere else. The program features politicians of all persuasions and types, surprisingly interesting people not heard elsewhere, as well as people doing great work in pop culture and the arts. They also feature pretty cool independent and unsigned bands and artists..... The Show strives to get people off their talking points. I also particularly like the segments whereby Faith interviews scientists and others. The program has a way of getting people to deconstruct things intelligently and tell us personal insights so that we can all build understanding of important issues or of the person being interviewed. Although I don't find EVERY bit piece funny (and this is sometimes the short segment at the top of the show) or that some of the bands aren't my thing (but thank you for featuring them), as humor and music is a personal taste, I do find that many of the elements of the show are entertaining and I do smile/laugh a number of times each program and will wait through a short bit that isn't touching my funny bone. This is a great listen particularly on long plane rides... the time flies when I am listening to Fair Game.

    Bleah
This show seems like it was written by a robot that has been fed loads of information about this alien genre of "humor." There's parody, snark, sarcasm, faux naivety, faux gravitas...but it fails to be anything more than grating and stilted. It's snark without wit, parody without joy. This is clearly an attempt to appeal to younger NPR listeners, but I can't imagine anyone but bitter 40-somethings listening this. Please take it off the radio; it's so unpleasant and demoralizing to come home from work just to hear Faith Saley and her various reporters mean-spiritedly mock people. From the 10/16/07 episode: a pen formerly owned by Saddam Hussein can be filled with ink or "with the tears of Iraqi children." Really? You think that's funny? Then you'll love this show.

    Too cute by half
It has its moments, but it's often a little too cute for its own good. I find myself groaning more than laughing. But then I suppose I'm too old to be its target demographic. It could find its way, though, so I'll keep listening.

    Ecletic, Hilarious and Absorbing
What a wonderful find. If you like "smart" radio (like Radio Lab, Fresh Air, This American Life) you will love this show. Faith Salie is fabulous. Great mix of humor, music and provocative journalism.

A show that's come into its own
I started listening to Fair Game back when it first started. I enjoyed the program in the beginning, but I'm continually impressed by the show's evolution. Faith Salie's banter with Fair Game's commentators/reporters alone makes it worth a listen, but the interviews are top notch and the up-and-coming indie artists have helped a music snob like me find great new bands. If I only have time for one podcast during my drive, this is it.

    Great show sans the music
Call me old but I love this show except for the music part which I always skip through. The music portion is available separately anyway.
  • rehcmh
Faith is amazing. What a talent. Take a listen.
This show wouldn't be worth the bother if not for Faith. She is very engaging. She brings to the show an intelligence and quick wit, coupled with a wry humor. You can tell that she is not an empty mouthpiece spouting canned rhetoric or whatever is written for her. There is real depth within her, and it shows in her interview style. The comedic bits are witty and worthy of a chuckle, but not hard laughter. Faith has a voice that will make a thinking man take notice. A mix of sexy kitten and that hot brainy girl from college. If you find a picture of her, you'll realize that it's not just her voice. Take a look and a listen.

    Faith Salie is my hero
Smart, informing, and terribly witty, this podcast delivers on a number of levels. Faith Salie is a wonderful host that makes any topic worth listening to. I love listening to it in the morning. I highly recommend it to everyone!

The best news show on radio
Smart, funny, and not smug. It's actually hard to believe this is public radio. This crew does an excellent job talking about tough issues, the music is flat-out awesome, and the humor is superb. I hope they keep this up- it's the best news show I've heard in years!
  • hairylobster
not even half as funny as should be...
If you like your news delivered to you by smug hipster types, in a manner completely devoid of fresh insight or depth, you'll love this show.
  • racheysmachy
    Witty, Interesting and engaging!
Fair Game is one of the best radio shows out there. Fair Game covers the news that is less covered but just as important and incredibly fascinating. Faith Sallie has a great sense of humor and so do many of her guests. I usually put on Fair Game in the morning for my commute to have a few good laughs. I highly recommend it.
  • fancycwabs
Timely, insightful? Yes. Amusing, entertaining? Sadly, no.
I listened to one and a half episodes of this before giving up on it. The first, an report on New Orleans a year and a half after Katrina had interviews with folks working for Habitat for Humanity and with working musicians affected by the storm. And, as a humor segment, "People in New Orleans eat weird things." Crawfish Cheesecake?!? Oh no! I stopped the second episode after the commentator, after taking Don Imus et. al. to task for being "not funny," calls his mother and berates her holiday stuffing. Sorry folks--regional intolerance and thinly-veiled chauvinism don't make for a podcast to which I'm particularly keen to subscribe.

It takes everything that is wrong with public radio - and fixes it
I adore this show. The skits are good, but the hosts and correspondants are what make it really work. They have naturally good chemistry to go along with strong intellect. Most "humor-based" public radio shows are too pretentious for my tastes (car talk a big exception), yet this show is anything but. Highly recommended.
  • SpecialEm
    Perfect.
Politics, music, insanity, and the power to make 50 minutes of your workday disappear. Truly the perfect podcast.
  • Mr Rucks
Really?!?!? You can listen to this?!?!?
I'm blown away that all 15 people involved in the creation of this mediocre hack-show spent the time to give this show positive reviews. First off, the host is completely bland. Her voice falls into some magical frequency that the brain automatically tunes out. And I'm not suggesting that she try shrieking or sampling fart sounds, but she could try to use some inflection-juice to pull her show out of the dull/smug zone. The host is also just not funny. Her sense of humor is like a crap photocopy of other smug, coastie, liberal humorists. Her attempts at humor are awkard, untimely, and embarassing; often leading to poor exchanges with guests who would otherwise be interesting. Bottom Line: Not Insightful, Not Funny, Not Entertaining

    Fair Game- The Best Game!
This has rapidly become my favorite podcast. Hugely engaging, funny, informative. Faith does a great job in the interviews, the guests are well chosen and the musical guests are eclectic and interesting.
  • kfgirl
    Entertaining
The show has funny but serious current events, intereting newsworthy news, and not-pop-chart-topper musically guests all wrapped up in one. Entertaining!
  • Fanfoot.
Fun spin on politics and culture
Faith is a great host. Generally a very light, humourous touch, though you'll still learn some things. Very professionally done. Worth your time.
  • begonia3
    Fantastic.
I listen to lots of podcasts and this is my new favorite. Faith Salie is quick, smart, funny -- and doesn't stoop to being snarky or mean. She even kept her cool while being attacked by Dinesh D'Souza; this not easily done. This show is a good model for what modern civic discourse should be like; wish it were more common.
  • ivo ivanov
    OUTSTANDING!
This is an excellent show: hillarious, smart and dynamic. Faith Salie is not only extremely intelligent and stunningly fast with her witty remarks but also in possession of one of the sexiest and most flirtaitious voices EVER! You go, girl! I am totally addicted to this show and I could listen to it 24/7
  • PodHead101
    Great show
Smart and funny! I'm also a fan of 'Never Not Funny'. The only complain is the recent huge file size - 100M (256K bitrate) per episode easily eats up my nano space. 64K should be good enough. Great show, keep it up!
  • Scott in MN
    Very funny and entertaining!
This is definitely a comedy show, not a news show - but I think it's great. It is similar to Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" in its premise. I really like the news analysis and the little segments like "Why Do They Hate Us." If you have a somewhat twisted sense of humor and you have an interest in current events, you should definitely check it out.
  • sestri
    this is a great show!
Just what I needed to hear. Smartly written, clever ideas, beautiful production, great musical guests. It's still a little rough around the edges (especially with the news "analysis"), but once this show finds its stride, this will be one amazing podcast. For a brand new show, this is far exceeding my expectations. It's trying something new, and doing it with gusto!
  • SCBecca
    A disappointment
I don't find this nearly as good as other public radio shows. The humor is lame, obvious, and predictable. If you are looking for a funny look at the week's news, you should check out Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. It is also available on a free weekly podcast.
  • pottersfire
    Reminiscing
If you liked KCRW's Rewind that was on NPR a couple of years ago(my favorite NPR show), you will probably like this. I really enjoy it! The musical guests have been excellent...
  • Splaytree
Like the Daily Show. But on the radio. With women.
After stumbling onto Fair Game on iTunes, I can safely say that this is the funniest podcast I've listened to since The McLaughlin Group began their Internet presence. (And that's saying quite a bit given Pat Buchanan's razor sharp wit.) Full of topical references and the driest of dry humor, listening to Fair Game makes the effort of jogging on a treadmill as enjoyable as laying on my couch.
  • American Splendor
    A solid program...
still a little shaky on it's feet, but with a lot of potential. It seems to take it's "appeal to young people" mandate a little too seriously, and the "comedy" segments feel like public radio lifers joking and jokers trying to do public radio... and there are some awkward moments in the interviews... but nonetheless a valiant effort that I hope succeeds. And they've booked excellent guests so far, so kudos on that.
